Shooting the family in “Tal Afar”

As the children get out of the car one of them screams, her hands covered in blood…

Sad story on the BBC web site (in pictures)

Inside the car were an Iraqi family of seven. The mother and father were killed but their five children in the backseat survived, one with a non-life threatening wound.

    How sad!

What kind of a dumb ass dad would run through the checkpoint like that, knowing he had a wife and kids to watch out for?

This is heartbreaking…every single time it happens. I wonder if the military has conducted any analysis of why people (those who aren’t suicide bombers, that is) fail to stop at checkpoints.

Steven Vincent, who has traveled around Iraq three times, has some nice things to say about Iraqi Communists. Check out the link on my blog.

    American

I saw it by myself when I was in Iraq last year, many incidents like this happened because of miscommunication between the American soldiers among themselves or American and Iraqi soldiers.

It happenned when I was sitting beside my father while he was driving and approuched an American check point but thanks god they didn’t shoot

  6. I’m sure confusion does happen at the checkpoints, though I doubt that soldiers would generally open fire if there’s any confusion among themselves. I’m sure the miscoomunication between the Iraqi and American mixed contingents is most common. Though that does nothing for the grief of this family.

Still; yesterday there were four car bombs and, though, there were a number of deaths, not one of them went off near their intended targets. Those security checkpoints saved a lot of lives.
