Assuming Hurricane Katrina is an act of god, what he is trying to say?

Some religious cults are saying that Hurricane Katrina is an act of God, Assuming there are right, and let us believe their claims for a minute so what is the Big Guy in the Sky is trying to say?

1– Don’t build on the beach.
2– Leave that forest alone and don’t cut down the trees along the water.
3– Water needs to go somewhere so there must be a low-land.
4– Don’t eat meat. [Guardian]

Western diets, which depend largely on meat, are already putting great pressures on the environment. Meat-eaters consume the equivalent of about 5,000 litres [1,100 gallons] of water a day compared to the 1,000–2,000 litres used by people on vegetarian diets in developing countries. All that water has to come from somewhere

5– Listen to what 1300 scientists said last March [The state of the world? It is on the brink of disaster]

Planet Earth stands on the cusp of disaster and people should no longer take it for granted that their children and grandchildren will survive in the environmentally degraded world of the 21st century.

G8 scientists tell Bush: Act now — or else…

The national academies of science for all the G8 countries, along with those of Brazil, India and China, have warned that governments must no longer procrastinate on what is widely seen as the greatest danger facing humanity. The statement, which has taken months to finalise, is all the more important as it is signed by Bruce Alberts, president of the US National Academy of Sciences, which has warned George Bush about the dangers of ignoring the threat posed by global warming.

6– Consider birth control. [LifeWatch Group]

Endangered Environment: A Great Contribution of Capitalism

Thus consumption-wise, the US population should be 24 billions as compared to Indian population or Indian population is equivalent to only 300 million as compared to US population .…… 1 US Child = 33 Indian Children = 800 Ethiopian Children.

7– Don’t be the biggest polluter. [Politics of the climate change]

CO2 Emissions

The US 24%
EU Countries 14%
China 13%

8– Consume less energy. [eia]

The United States of America is the world’s largest energy producer, consumer, and net importer.

9– Support Kyoto Protocol.

George Bush Refuses to Sign Kyoto Protocol.

George Bush pulled the US out of the Kyoto accords as one of the first acts of his presidency. Bush dismissed Kyoto Protocol as too costly, describing it as “an unrealistic and ever-tightening straitjacket.” Lately, the White House has even questioned the validity of the science behind global warming, and claims that millions of jobs will be lost if the US joins in this world pact.

European Environment Commissioner Margot Wallström said;

But this ignorant, short sighted and selfish politician, long since firmly jammed into the pockets of the oil lobby, clearly couldn’t care less. The talks in Bonn in July must now concentrate on world action independent of the U.S.‘

10– Support and try to use Green Energy.

  1. There have been some religious groups claiming that God caused the hurrican because a gay event called Southern Decadence was palnned t begin this week in New Orleans. To those who subscribe to this belief, I ask you, why didn’t God wait until this week to destroy the city? He surely could have killed a few fags if he hit at the height of the festival. Secondly if disasters like the hurricane, the tsunami or earthquakes in Iran and Turkey are an example of how a heavenly father treats his children, then he should be charged with neglect and child abuse and lose custody.

  2. Charles says:

How come there aren’t more hurricanes in provincetown RI?

  3. Nadia_4iraqis says:

Mother earth is telling us that we must put the environmental questions on the top of the agenda for all of us on this planet to work on ASAP. The Kyoto protocol needs even to be stricter and all of us need to understand that it is this that needs our focus.

It’s really to bad the Kyoto protocol wasn’t in place during the last ice age…

Nadia, Mother Earth goes through changes and cycles.… just ask the dinosuars…

  5. Jeff says:

Also, you need to direct your criticism towards China as well… They will soon pass the US. Very Soon.

  6. Charles says:

Kyoto protocol Kyoto protocol Kyoto protocol Kyoto protocol

Have you even read it? Has anyone?

Doesn’t it lock in Russian emissions at a level set about 20 years ago before soviet industry collapsed?

Countries that blindly signed on are now having second thoughts.

The Kiwis apparently totally miscalculated what it would cost them. They will have to pay hundreds of millions extra to purchase credits and they don’t even produce anything for god’s sake. What industries do they have? Dairy and meat?

  7. Nadia_4iraqis says:

Jeff, you need to update your knowledge of what scientist are saying today. And since you have a tendency to see no importance in what I write here I suggest you yourself read what scientist’s research are saying loud and clear to all of us.

There are signs of an emerging intelligence in the USA.

WASHINGTON (AFX) — Two key senators said Tuesday it may be appropriate for Congress to look at raising mandatory fuel economy standards to boost the efficiency of vehicles in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. Sen. Pete Domenici, the Republican chairman of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee, said at a hearing it may be time to “take another look at [corporate average fuel economy] standards” but added “I don’t know how we would address that.” Sen. Jeff Bingaman, D-N.M., the ranking Democrat on the committee, said “I am very encouraged that this is possibly an issue we could revisit.” The U.S. automotive industry has fiercely opposed such measures. The Bush Administration recently proposed changes to fuel economy standards for light trucks an sport utility vehicles

  9. mike says:

Lets not forget that Bill Clinton never submitted the
Kyoto protocol because it would be overwhelmingly rejected
by the Senate. That Bush publicly acknowledged this does not
make him to blame that Kyoto would never become ‘law’ in the
    US

Are you saying that the earth does not go through cycles? I think you missed the point with the Ice Age comment.
There have been many ages and cycles that this planet has gone through and will continue to go through. There have been many extinctions thoughout this planets history and there will be many more.

It is also a very good point that Bill Clinton did not sign on it as well.

But hey from what I’ve read on this site, history didn’t exist before the year 2001. The year bush took office.

Nadia I would suggest that you go back a little bit in this planets Long history and learn a little more than what you know now. You need to think a little more outside of the Bush hating box. Climate change is a normal function here on the planet earth. It’s been taking place for millions of years. Are you disputing the very well known fact?

  11. Jon says:

LadyBird– “Meat-eaters consume the equivalent of about 5,000 litres [1,100 gallons] of water a day”

Even if I ate a whole cow every day, there are no cows that consume 5000l of water a day. Would like to know how they came up with that statistic.

Indian population is equivalent to only 300 million as compared to US population ……. 1 US Child = 33 Indian Children = 800 Ethiopian Children”

These nations live in abject poverty and more much more densely populated than their land mass should be forced to support. You could compare ANY nation to Ethiopia and India and come up with the assumption that the nation consumes more than it should. The real truth is that the populations of those nations should start sterilizing people who have more than one baby per couple until they can bring their population under control.

    Don’t be the biggest polluter.”

We are that, but the rest of the world is closing fast and it’s this combined acceleration that is going to be the death of us all. I would like to see statistics on which nation is reducing emissions the fastest too.

    Consider birth control.”

You’ll get much better results if you actually use it. Considering has been shown to have very little effect.

    Support Kyoto Protocol.”

Even Kyoto isn’t going to reduce gases fast enough to avoid the widespread desertification and the resulting starvation that’s coming. It’s probably already too late to avoid a mass die-off if not extinction of the human race.

Jeff– “Mother Earth goes through changes and cycles”

This may or may not be a cycle, but there is no denying that it has been rapidly accelerated by greenhouse gas emissions.

Michael– “There are signs of an emerging intelligence in the USA.”

    Thanks for the backhanded compliment.

Mike– “Lets not forget that Bill Clinton”

No, let’s forget Bill Clinton entirely. He is old news and history past and has no bearing on what’s happening these days.

Saxon– “There have been many extinctions thoughout this planets history and there will be many more.”

Does this excuse everyone to do nothing to avoid it?

It is also a very good point that Bill Clinton did not sign on”

Only if you consider this a discussion partisan political discussion rather than a topic on the survival of the human race.

You need to think a little more outside of the Bush hating box.”

And you could think outside the conservative box. Out of the points in this article, only two of the points even mention Bush. Why are Republican so sensative about Bush being criticized when he so obviously deserves criticism?

  12. Nadia_4iraqis says:

Jon wrote “Even if I ate a whole cow every day, there are no cows that consume 5000l of water a day. Would like to know how they came up with that statistic.”

Jon, a cow drinks a lot of water, he needs more then vegetables need to survive. And above that you need to add the water that was used to grow the food that is given to it. Most of the animals (for food) in Europe eat soybeans grown in Brazil. These soybeans need water when they grow and another side effect this has is that now a lot of rainforest is taken everyday to give room for these soybeans. Forests are the ones that give us the ability to breathe the air on this earth.

I have not checked it out today, but the last time I read about it even the fish industry in Sweden was talking about shifting to giving soy/vegetable food to their fish. The small fish they used to give them before is needs to be left in the oceans.
    ___________

A lot of us human beings don’t look ahead, because if we did we would not have obesity problems, we would not have adult diabetes and high cholesterol problems etc in the extent we have today. All these can be prevented by healthy food and exercise and most of us don’t do that, we have lost our responsibility of our own bodies. We wait until we are hit with the illness/disaster and then in shock and complaining hope for outside help, God forbid that a change in our lifestyles would be threatened. We’d rather fill us up with pills then take away that beef or take that exercise hour everyday.

No medical company can provide us with breathable clean air, but the forests can.

  13. Jeff says:

Nadia, everything that you’re talking about is the direct result of laziness.

    The real question should be…

How do we cure human laziness?

  14. Jeff says:

    k…?

Nice picture by the way, are we posting pictres of dead babies now?…Does mean I get to post videos of beheadings?

  15. Jeff says:

how did this go from lazy humans with bad diets and trying to save the rain forest to dead babies?

  16. Jon says:

Nadia– “Jon, a cow drinks a lot of water, he needs more then vegetables need to survive.”

Thanks for jogging my brain. Somehow it ends up adding up to 5000l over the course of the life of the cow. I guess I’ll switch to veal then. LOL ;-)

Was bitching at my grocer the other day about the jackup on the price of milk. He told me that it’s because so many people suddenly switched over to eating beef as part of the new low-carb diet fad and dairy farmers are killing their cows for beef. It’s a crazy world out there. Everyone wants the quick fix. I’m waiting for a headline in the papers that reads, “Scientists discover diet and exercise linked to weight loss!”

we would not have obesity problems, we would not have adult diabetes and high cholesterol problems etc”

I’m going to start a new fad diet called “The Poptart and Chocolate Cake Diet”. Of course it won’t work, but at least I’ll get rich!

We’d rather fill us up with pills”

Sadly, everyone’s been taking the wrong pills. They should try thyroxine supplements.

  17. Jon says:

    Yeah! What she said! *shrug*

That’s a particularly foul picture you linked us to… well done!

Jeff– “how did this go from lazy humans with bad diets and trying to save the rain forest to dead babies?”

Don’t you see? It’s Bush’s plot to destroy humanity! I can see it clearly now. ;-)

  18. Just an ordinary hurricane. No one would have cared if this one hit Bangladesh. Go fight ur wars dudes.

  19. Nadia_4iraqis says:

I made the above comment to make it easier to understand that we need to take the preventive steps to save mother earth seriously, there is no pill that can be taken the day we lack clear breathable air.

The corporations, industry are not lazy. Many of them see the changes in their productions that are needed because of the greenhouse gas emissions as a threat to them making more profit and even some might see it as an economical disaster. That is were a lot of preventive work and pressure is needed NOW.

  20. Nadia_4iraqis says:

The arabic link was about Iraq.

  21. Jeff says:

    clear breathable air.

So, It seems to me that you need spend some of this energy you have on trying to save the rain forest…The last time I checked, The rain forest wasn’t in the US. That’s why we buy middle eastern oil, we’re to busy keeping our forest intact!

    Remember:

Save the caribou, kill the seals””

  22. Jon says:

Gopal– “No one would have cared if this one hit Bangladesh.”

It’s OK. Bongladesh is way overpopulated and could use a good natural disaster.

Nadia– “That is were a lot of preventive work and pressure is needed NOW.”

I think the figure is an 80% reduction needed immediately. Which, face it, is frickin’ impossible. Bye bye human race!

The arabic link was about Iraq.”

Care to translate or were you just activating a sleeper cell? Just kiddin’! ;-)

The rain forest wasn’t in the US.”

Not true! The BRAZILIAN rainforest isn’t in the US, but I happen to live in a rainforest here in the US. Not saying where because I know CMAR will try to hunt me down and kill me for disagreeing with him.

  23. jon: It’s OK. Bongladesh is way overpopulated and could use a good natural disaster.

I guess the same could be said of human civilisation in genral.

  24. Jon says:

Gopal– “I guess the same could be said of human civilisation in genral.”

Hey! We agree on something! Cool.

  25. LadyBird says:

Nadia Thanks for the link, I will publish it on the front page.

  26. Jon says:

Nadia– ” I will publish it on the front page.”

Post a warning about the nasty picture with it. That almost put me off my lunch.

  27. Nadia_4iraqis says:

    Its long AND very good!!!

    Katrina Speaks!
    By Dr. SUSAN BLOCK

I am Katrina, Goddess of the Hurricane, Super-Domme of the Superdome, Water Witch of Dixieland, Mother of All American Disasters, your Mistress of Destruction, your Lady of Pain. Down on your knees, America! Lick My muddy boots, covered with My special toxic gumbo of sewage, oil, lead and e-coli bacteria. Sniff My soiled panties; they smell of dead babies, and so do you. You will never wash away that smell.

You thought you’d ignore Me, didn’t you? Thought you’d just stay on your endless vacation with your pernicious Perma-War raging in Old Mesopotamia, just far enough away to make you feel safe. Well, didn’t I just burst through your gated community of clean, pressed oblivion with a flood of soaking wet, stinking rotten reality? Didn’t I just deluge your world?

Down on your knees, America. Down in My sea of sludge. I breathe, and the winds blow. I weep, and the rains fall. Indeed, I am more terrible than terror. Yet when I warn you I’m coming, you ignore me.

You blame your leaders, and they deserve the blame, especially your Clown President, Mr. Preemptive. The only attacks he’s good at preempting are the ones on himself. Of course, he ignored Me. What did you expect from a guy who continued to read “My Pet Goat,” then jetted around aimlessly while passenger planes were flying into the World Trade Centers and Pentagon?

But you ignored me too. You know you did. For years, I’ve been #3 on America’s list of “Worst Possible Things Likely To Happen.” I may be a natural disaster, but your willful ignorance has turned me into a crime against humanity. Well, now that My clean-up is going to cost thousands of times what preparing for Me properly would have cost, perhaps you won’t ignore Me anymore.

I am Katrina, Queen of Your Guilty Conscience, Empress of the Undead who haunt your deepest feelings. Kneel down in My flooded streets and worship My terrible power. Suckle at My teat of tainted milk. I am Katrina, Water Witch of the South, Belladonna of the Unsaved, Weeping Mother of the Children and the Elderly in wheelchairs, mostly poor, mostly black, many dead, more sick, even more displaced, images debilitating your attempts to think about anything else.

Like My Hindu Cousin Kali, I am the Destroyer. In my Dance, I destroy homes, infrastructures, lives. But I also destroy ignorance. As I dance, I strip away illusion. As I dance, I strip away the $14,000 Oxxford Presidential suits, the photo-ops and platitudes, and show the world the Little Emperor has no clothes. “Mission Accomplished!” indeed, if the mission is Apocalypse New Orleans.

As I dance, I whip the rose-colored glasses from your nose. My tears fill your eyes as I show you otherworldly horrors unfolding in real time in an American neighborhood near you. As I dance, I strip away the white sheets, exposing the bigotry that seeps into society like lead in the water. As I dance, I break down walls, revealing the heartbreaking face of poverty in America when no one comes to help. Poverty in America, the wretched result of trickle-down Reagonomics, has risen 17% under the God-invoking regime of Mr. Compassionate Conservative, and is still rising like My waters in the Bayou. As I dance, I strip away the veils that gloss over the fact that there are Two New Orleans, and Two Americas: the relatively secure High Ground and the poverty-stricken, drowning-in-the-muck Low Ground.

What’s the matter? You don’t like My dance? Too destructive? Too revealing? I’m sorry. Really, I am. I weep for you. I weep, and I rage and I destroy

But please remember, it is you who seduced Me. You let Me in. You received My weather reports, just like everybody else. You knew I was coming. I’m just a natural female, a squirter, you might say, wild, but predictable. You chose not to heed My warnings.

Um, honestly I didn’t read the whole thing.

But its probably beautiful or something — right?

So this Katrina bitch is all hot and bothered about causing destruction in the southern US?

Didn’t she used to date Michael?
