Iraqi minister says US and UK spies arrested in Iraq; Iran meddling.

As I have repeatedly told, Iran has nothing to do with Iraq’s developments….Let me tell a piece of truth to the public in Iraq. We have arrested a number of US and UK intelligence elements.”

I wonder why this sudden conscious awaking by the minister?

And what about Allawi’s last announcement

Former Iraqi PM Allawi Reveals Latest Assassination Plot on His Life.

Iraq’s former Prime Minister, Iyad Allawi, revealed an Iraqi political faction planned to assassinate him by enlisting the help of a militia group and indicated he had obtained a detailed copy of plot from a trusted intelligence source last week.

I will not be surprised if it’s true because the current government are a mix of terrorists and thieves with a religious flavor and much worst than Saddam.

But I will not be surprised also if Allawi is making up these claims trying to merchandise himself as the new Iraq’s leader, he is a businessman and the US prefer such people to be it’s shopkeeper in the region.

CIA Avoids Scrutiny of Detainee Treatment

In November 2002, a newly minted CIA case officer in charge of a secret prison just north of Kabul allegedly ordered guards to strip naked an uncooperative young Afghan detainee, chain him to the concrete floor and leave him there overnight without blankets, according to four U.S. government officials aware of the case.

The Afghan guards — paid by the CIA and working under CIA supervision in an abandoned warehouse code-named the Salt Pit — dragged their captive around on the concrete floor, bruising and scraping his skin, before putting him in his cell, two of the officials said.

As night fell, so, predictably, did the temperature.

By morning, the Afghan man had frozen to death.

CIA Holds Terror Suspects in Secret Prisons

The CIA has been hiding and interrogating some of its most important al Qaeda captives at a Soviet-era compound in Eastern Europe, according to U.S. and foreign officials familiar with the arrangement.

The secret facility is part of a covert prison system set up by the CIA nearly four years ago that at various times has included sites in eight countries, including Thailand, Afghanistan and several democracies in Eastern Europe, as well as a small center at the Guantanamo Bay prison in Cuba, according to current and former intelligence officials and diplomats from three continents.

    Carter Roasts Bush

FORMER US president Jimmy Carter overnight accused President George W. Bush’s administration of degrading moral standards underpinning decades of US foreign policy.

In the last five years there has been a profound and radical change in the basic policies or moral values of our country,” said Mr Carter, a Democratic Party president between 1977 and 1981.

This (Washington Post article) is just one indication of what has been done under this administration to change the policies that have persisted all the way through our history.”

I think that the claims that Saddam was involved in 9/11 and the claims that he had massive weapons of mass destruction that would threaten our country were manipulated at least to mislead the American people into going to war,” he said.

AI Concerned Over New Claims of Abuse

This “is only the latest in a series of cases of abuse by US troops in Afghanistan since 2001,” Amnesty said in a statement. Most of the other cases involve the abuse of detainees, at least eight of whom are reported to have died.

A “pattern of impunity and military leniency as well as delays and cover-ups in the investigation of deaths in US custody and abuses in Afghanistan and Iraq” was reflected in recent trials of soldiers involved in the 2002 abuse of detainees, Amnesty said.

What Judy forgot: Your right to know
The most intriguing revelation of Special Prosecutor Patrick J. Fitzgerald’s news conference last week was his assertion that he would have presented his indictment of I. Lewis “Scooter” Libby a year ago if not for the intransigence of reporters who refused to testify before the grand jury. He said that without that delay, “we would have been here in October 2004 instead of October 2005.” Had that been the case, John Kerry probably would be president of the United States today.
