The Second French Revolution

france_Mcdonald

Take my words, if you really want a good news reports, shows you the real situation as it is without bias to any side then it is the Belgium TV, A very good quality TV reporting.
Just an hour ago, there was a very good report about France riots, an interview with few teenagers who participated in the burnings.

They said they will take the riots to a second stage by burning official state’s buildings and they will never stop until the government makes some improvement in the misery situation in these neighborhoods.

They are communicating through Blogs, for example someone sends a photo of his street of district on a Blog and that means you people can start here.

They are not organized, they said if they are organized, their cause will be more effective but it is dangerous because maybe it will bloodier.

There was also an interview with some non-Muslim Africans participated in the riots, all the people on the interview said the same thing, they said few hundred years ago and the circumstances it was the start of the French revolution.

The reporter went to a court to see who process there is been dealt with, he reported that the court start from 4 o’clock in the morning maximum time for every case is 30 minutes, no more, the reporter witnesses two cases, he said the judge let both sides speak freely.

on the BBC there is a very good article on the same subject “French bloggers at odds over riots”,

French youths have been turning to weblogs to express their anger and frustration over the violence that has hit some of the country’s poorest suburbs.…Tribute website Bouns93 gathered 1,700 comments from readers before it was shut down by its host for not following regulations.

Another, Banlieue93, has elicited more than 300 responses to its post calling for readers to pay their respects to the two teenagers

And this is a good reading also

Paris Prosecutors Eye Blogs Urging Riots

Paris prosecutors opened an inquiry Tuesday into two young bloggers who urged French youths to riot and revolt against the police, a judicial official said.

The youths, a 16-year-old French teen and an 18-year-old with Ghanian nationality, were detained Monday in the Paris region, said the official.

They were to be placed under investigation, a step short of formal charges, for inciting harm to people and property over the Internet, said the official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because French law bars the disclosure of information from ongoing inquiries. Conviction on the charge could carry a sentence of up to five years in prison and a $52,800 fine.

…and it’s not the United States government. ;-) It’s your favorite vacation spot government.

LadyBird– “they will never stop until the government makes some improvement in the misery situation”

The government action on this matter should be limited to the restriction on harassment and abuse of that sector of society. If these people expect more than that, they are asking more than they should. If they want their circumstances to improve, then they need to get out and find jobs, build businesses and seek education and then prove themselves to be first class citizens by making valuable contributions to their societies. If their agenda consists of extorting a better welfare package out of the government, then they only deserve to be clubbed into submission by the cops.

I would like more information on how this situation came into being all of a sudden. From what I can gather, the Islamic community in France has been harassed by the law enforcement community to the extent that they are stopped, searched and ID’d on a regular basis simply for being Muslim. We’ve seen this same type of violent reaction in the African-American communities here in the US. When a simmering community faces a shock such as the electrocution deaths of two teens who were trying to evade the police, it seems to be human nature for that community to react with rage and lash out against whatever targets it can quantify under the label “society”. What I question is the methods they are using. LadyBird makes the point that there is no leadership on the Muslim side of this struggle and that might be the crux of the problem. It is my belief that peaceful demonstration is likely to be a much more effective method for progress and will tend to win more outsiders to your cause. In order to turn this into a peaceful struggle though, you need a Ghandi to step forward and denounce the violence on behalf of the Muslim community and then act as a peaceful guide for the frustrations of that community. When you blindly lash out with violence, you probably hurt your cause more than help because you will end up souring people who probably would have been sympathetic if they had just been more aware of your suffering beforehand. It would behoove the French Muslims to exalt someone just for the narrow purpose of giving their community a voice. When an entity, individual or group, cannot express themselves vocally, their only other choice is to “act out”.

I find it odd that Americans come to this site and make fun of and criticize this behavior when Americans have behaved in this exact manner in reaction to the attacks of 9/11. After the 9/11 attacks, America had the sympathy of the world to include the greatest part of the Islamic world (believe it or not). The attack on Afghanistan was viewed as completely justified by the bulk of the world. But, lacking even-handed leadership, the US took their reaction one step further. We found out after 9/11 that most of our attackers were Saudi Arabs and this created a problem. Saudi Arabia is a US ally and, even more importantly, they have something that the US really, really wants and the Saudis (to be read as “the Saudi royal family”) were giving us a good deal on this product.

It is difficult to say why US leadership reacted the way it did and launched a war of aggression on Iraq. Either the Bush administration was pandering to public opinion or they were taking advantage of the anger of the citizenry to exert influence over an Iraqi resource we wanted and had no control over. Regardless of the reason, instead of taking vengeance on the actual source of the attacks against the US, we did what probably appears to be the next best thing by launching a shock and awe campaign against Saudi’s nextdoor neighbor. I think the Bush administration knew for certain before our attack on Iraq, but now we all know for certain, that Iraq was no threat to us and the evidence against Iraq was contrived. The reason Bush and company has gotten away with this crime is because Saddam Hussein is really easy to demonize and drum up support against in the US.

An American criticizing the French Muslims for lashing out in rage is ludicrous to me because America as a whole has done this very thing. We have gone out and attacked in response to 9/11 (deny it all you want Charles, we all know this to be true) a nation which had absolutely no involvement in 9/11. Bush managed to use a color-coded nuclear scare tactic against the public to drum up enough public support to justify his attack and now the only question is why. My personal opinion is that he and his cronies are low, greedy bastards. The fact that Bush is an oilman does not really help his case either.

The solution, which I know sounds way too simple, is for everyone to chill the heck out. All aggressions which can be ceased on every side should be ceased and then the aftershocks should be suffered and condemned. All troops should be withdrawn and a vigilant status should be adopted to mitigate whatever damage which can be mitigated.

It is to the advantage of those in the US profiting from oil, weapons, automobiles, plastics and much more to maintain a continuous state of war in Iraq so that the US can maintain influence over the oil being extracted there. What those who are still sane need to do is come out in the most aggressively vocal manner possible to do whatever needs to be done in order to end this war. Will there be further suffering? Yes. Will the US probably be attacked again? Most likely. But that is what it takes when you are going to assert yourself as a world leader and “the bigger man”.

The US is a strong nation. We really need to start acting like it. I am really tired of the world viewing us as half-cocked, overblown cowboys.

    Peace and Salaam. Good night.

I am just telling you what the report on TV says, if they have a problem with it, they can ask the Belgium TV.

  5. Jon says:

Don’t worry LadyBird, he’s just being a punk. As far as I can tell, you’ve never incited anything but intense discussion and maybe a little mudslinging. :-)
