[…] Always liked your sense of humour Jeffrey. Btw, do you still pray “hollowed be thy name”?Man man man… what a saga in Iraq, isn’t it? Say that we’ve been following it for 2 1/2 years now… and we’re still around. Vets, so to say.I don’t know what to make of it anymore. There’s all this scary stuff ITM, Zeyad and Alaa are posting about, and then I just read a Ralph Peters column saying almost the opposite. So what’s really going on? If I’d trust CNN, I’d say any moment now a civil war will break out.Continue to blog Jeffrey. My best to you over there in The Big Apple. Hope that you, a self-proclamied atheist, may find in your old days some consolation in faith. I’m not a pillar-biter, don’t even regularly visit churches, but still it works for me.Outlaw Mike | Email | Homepage | 03.14.06 — 5:20 pm | # Outlaw Mike,It’s really nice to hear from an old blog-buddy like you. Yes, we’ve been at this getting close to three years. Man, talk about the ups and downs! For me, the one that hurt the most was, of course, when the Iraqi government let Muqtada Al-Sadr waltz out of Najaf after the killing spree he had gone on. But I understand that the government was weak at the time and really didn’t have the muscle, I imagine, to take on the responsibility. And now Sadr is probably too strong to take him out. But it still could work out fine — and certainly each of those elections has been fantastic to see. I’m still oddly optimistic. I think in the next two months a parliament will be seated with a prime minister and a president and slowly law and order will be imposed and Iraqis will begin building a democracy of their own in the Middle East. Call me crazy, I guess.Yes, I’ve tried to keep my sense of humor — thanks for mentioning that! — but sometimes even I get down when Iraqis get killed by terrorists and fatheads like Muqty blame the US for the deaths. That’s tough to take. The other night I was talking to my parents about something and my Dad said, “Well, we’re all God’s children.” And I have to admit it was a nice thought. I understood what he meant even though I don’t believe in the deus ex machina superstructure. We all have our failings and yet we are accepted by those who love us.P.S. I occasionally see some of the old gang here and there on the comments pages. I always smile and say hello. *Jeffrey — New York | Email | Homepage | 03.14.06 — 5:39 pm | # Hey Outlaw!Did you get my email?Get packing! .Jeff,That’s really cool, the little link you added, thanks for that. Yea, God is a nice thought.Jacques Brel (a big favorite) would believe in God only when he had a tooth ache he said in one of his songs. Michael knows him well, I bet!I have been drawing God as Allah and he ended up looking like Arafat stock in a green cloud with a big sword and the classic bomb on his “coiffe”. Don’t know what to do with him, yet.Diane | Email | Homepage | 03.14.06 — 6:56 pm | # hey folks, been busy lately, keep blogging i’ll have to catch up later…>old news, just in case you didn’t see it..the parallel useful tool for Raed.ex-con Khalid Jarrar w/ baby fathttp://www.aliveinbaghdad.org/?p=2090 Rubin | Email | Homepage | 03.14.06 — 10:31 pm | # Hello Rubin,Well said, he looks quite relaxed, even handsome, as if he has been living the good life — trouble free.Some people are lucky and they will never know it.Diane | Email | Homepage | 03.14.06 — 11:05 pm | # Hi Diane, thx, got your mail. Replied!Jacques Brel (a big favorite) would believe in God only when he had a tooth ache he said in one of his songs. Michael knows him well, I bet!I like him. He was a Bruxellois, a francophone, not 100% a Walloon. His mother tongu was French. He didn’t like ardent Flemish nationalists BUT he had a lot of nice things to say about Flemings. Even sang in Flemish, occasionally. As a matter of fact, yesterday i heard the Flemsih version of “Ne me quitte pas”: “Laat me niet alleen”. What I like most is Mon plat pays/Mijn valkke land. Marvellous.I think Brel was one of the few real Belgians. Neither Fleming nor Walloon. It’s a weird country. But I like it too, in spite of everything.Outlaw Mike | Email | Homepage | 03.15.06 — 1:35 pm | # Tsk tsk. Mon plat pays = “Mijn vlakke land”. “vlak” being flat.Outlaw Mike | Email | Homepage | 03.15.06 — 1:36 pm | # It really sucks that Muktadar al Sadr is getting everyone down, but you have to consider all the wasted opportunities. By invading Iraq we lifted everyone’s spirits to their zenith, including the foreign fighters and saddam loyalists only to later crush those of the common people. As I have read from some of the bloggers on Iraq, there are things being done. The forces of modernity being forced on the Iraqi people unfortunately has led to the aggregation of radicalism. I don’t know what to do, I don’t think we can save the world anymore. If America had ideals we would have stood up for Tibet before that conflict ended with assimilation by the Chinese. US foreign policy just ain’t what it used to be.You may think we had balls to take on a dictator, but I think it takes more balls to go the peaceful route. It’s not just one quick action but a great determination and risks that are undeniably worth it.Our collective penis is small, but keep the loving coming on the seaside.DC Peaches | Email | Homepage | 03.16.06 — 3:15 pm | # I admit that something needs to be done to change dynamics but anyone that believes the US action was/is righteous is highly dilusional. It needs to start with a different kind of tone-setting by the leaders among us. I have high praise for those of you who set up this part of the blogosphere.DC Peaches | Email | Homepage | 03.16.06 — 3:29 pm | # Mr. Magoowhat’s hip today might become passe heh>Head Tater Chubby Cheeker Like to think one of the ITM brothers could git Tater into one of their chairs. …hummm BAM!>Fact:Ladybird aka Tokyo Rose is a delete freak.Tokyo RoseNice try ladybirdy http://www.thereligionofpeace.co…s/PalGunKid.jpghttp://www.ogrish.com/archives/ r…ar_13_2006.htmlQuestion:are *car swarms* eg.
VIDEO SHOWS IRAQI CHILDREN PLAYING WITH REMAINS OF U.S. SOLDIER

It’s not Americans bodies you see in the video.

2) The (chrome) horn in the video is not a Humvee part. It’s probably the horn of a Hi-Lux, or other ISF vehicle.

3) The boot? ISF wear the same boots US troops do.

Rubin: How do you know that the Iraqi is reporting it wrong and not Sgt. Simon?

The Americans are the ones who have a track record of lying.… remember those imaginary WMDs?

Amazing how you think the US troops there would remember everything correctly, under all circumstances, and then be totally honest in how they report it to the media. And then, on top of that, you accuse the Iraqi resistance of hiding behind women and children.

We have seen dozens of stories of US troops shooting at cars or trucks approaching them (or a checkpoint) where they shoot ‘em up.… and the car occupants turn out to be unarmed.

And, I am sure, we don’t hear of hundreds of more stories like that.

Reconstructing Iraq: <a href="http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/national/1107AP_Iraq_Powerless.html" rel="nofollow">Electricity hits three-year low in Iraq</a>:

<blockquote>
The overstressed network is producing less than half the electricity needed to meet Iraq's exploding demand. American experts are working hard to shore up the system's weaknesses as 100-degree-plus temperatures approach beginning as early as May, driving up usage of air conditioning, electric fans and refrigeration.

The decline of Iraq's electrical system can be traced back at least to the 1991 Gulf War, when U.S. warplanes targeted the grid. The government rebuilt the system to produce 4,400 megawatts, still short of demand. But damage from the 2003 invasion - and particularly from looting that followed - knocked production down to 3,200 megawatts and wrecked transmission lines.

The Army engineers who rolled into Iraq in 2003 found power plants barely operating, lacking spare parts and suffering from years of neglect brought on by U.N. trade sanctions. They brought in contractors to upgrade installations, but the looting and sabotage went on. Insurgents attacked fuel pipelines. Other Iraqis toppled transmission towers to keep power in their own cities and away from Baghdad.
