Keep Israel out of NATO

As if, there are not enough problems in the world, now the US prepairing the world for Israel to join the NATO.

Lawmakers praise NATO-Israel ties

Forty members of the U.S. Congress wrote NATO’s secretary-general in support of expanding the NATO-Israel relationship.

The letter sent Monday to Jaap de Hoop Scheffer praised the increased military cooperation between NATO and Israel.

Increased military cooperation? need example??

I saw this on the Lebanese TV 4 days ago:

    Interesting pov LB.

What is wrong with sovereign Israel entering into a mutual defense structure as a member of NATO?

I would think it would have a mitigating effect on the violence.

Anyone who attacks Israel invokes the mutual defense pact and all members are obligated to come to her defense.

I somehow doubt it will ever go through, the day after ratification a suicide bomber will attack or someone will fire rockets from Lebanon and it will drag NATO into the conflict. I think member nations will reluctant to sign on. This is just propaganda or election year politic. And a little fear mongering from Ladybird.

Now if I was in charge, I would do it.

  3. Charles says:

    I agree Madtom,

Europe would NEVER agree to defend Israel. It would be fun to run the exercise though just to watch them wiggle and squirm. Maybe they could engage in a constructive public discussion. It would be fun to watch.

Better than the god damned world cup tomorrow.

We never expect much from the US, but last world cup was pretty exciting for US fans. The Czech’s utterly crushed our sleepwalking team in the first game, and tomorrow we have the bloody Italians.

I hope we can at least score one goal.

why wuld anyone want a nasty state like Israel in their group? This same state has led the US into a quagmire in Iraq. Its notorious for using suckers…

Israel is a racist, apartheid state they are not welcome in NATO or even the European Song Contest.

  6. Nadia says:

U.S. Congress should put its energy on its nation and let Israeli politisans put their energy on their nation.

Or maybe we should say the Israeli lobby should back off and let US congress take care of its national issues first second and third.

Israel has no support to join NATO, it can dream it will not happen as long as it is occuping Palestine.

  7. Nadia says:

LB these spy networks that preform terror acts for Israel are the reason why Israel will never be trusted and always be suspected of the terror we see in Iraq.

Yea sure because you said so.

Charles, congratulations, the US DID score one goal…or rather the Italians scored it for them!!
But the US team performed very commendably, esp the goalkeeper Keller, and Landon Donovon, and Mc Bride…but as for allthose red and yellow cards…

Beckenbauer chides refs: Franz Beckenbauer is annoyed at all the yellow cards being handed out by World Cup referees, and the tournament organizer and accused an African official of stupidity on Friday.’

Well actually the US State Dept. agrees with me.

    Brian,

I was quite pleased with US play. I dare say they ‘dominated’ the first half. But its funny, we can’t seem to score goals. The ref was right to take back beasley’s goal that would have put US up, but he was wrong in other critical calls. The (yellow) red card against pope was a bit extreme because he knew it would mean ejection, and the tackle was nothing extraodinary. The second red card was just absurd.

Playing half the game a man down to Italy and holding things together was a decent result.

I’m not sure beasley should play in next game. Coach gave him a second chance but with fresh legs in second half he was afraid to run. I suppose he didn’t get the memo that the US needs to win.

I was glad to see Keller make some saves. I was beginning to wonder what he was doing in goal. It seemed every on goal shot went to the back of the net and he just stood there.

On scoring goals…well, australia failed to score any against Brazil, in spite of having several opportunities. I can only hope that Harry Kewell is not off during the match with Croatia, for his chiding the ref for what was perceived bias against the australian team. He can be good, altho our best chances are Tim Cahill and John Aloisi.
Failure to score goals happens a lot, even to the best teams…Kaka failed to score a single goal for Brazil in the Australia match, and he tried 3 times, yet he score the only goal against Croatia…

But US has a real challenge against Ghana, which managed to out score Czech Rep.

  13. Charles says:

I can only hope the US team is just building momentum.

All players have good days and bad days. All teams have good days and bad days. To get both the individual players and the team to have a good day (on the same day) isn’t always easy.

The US started painfully slow but if they are still building their momentum, it should be a good match with Ghana. The Czech’s blasted through the US and must have ‘felt’ too high. Ghana brought them back down.

I just hope our guys put their hearts into it. That’s all I ask.

If Italy smokes the Czechs, and we can beat somehow beat Ghana, then we squeak through…
