The difference is that the US legal system will put those responsible in jail for life — or worse — if they are found guilty. If it happened, it was an absolutely heinous crime.

To some extent we did provide loan guarantees to US exporters trading with Iraq, and other facilities were established to make sure that Iraq (and the rest of the gulf) was not overrun by Iran. As you may recall, US/Iran relations were far from friendly at the time.
We did not give Saddam chemical weapons. That is absurd and stupid propaganda.
Well, the UN did that. We certainly supported them. Saddam could have complied fully and had sanctions removed. He chose not to. In hindsight, I agree sanctions were a mistake. ‘Containment’ was the only option since there was no international consensus to get rid of him. I think sanctions should be a temporary (maximum 12 months) effort to ascertain the intentions of the rogue regime. If compliance is not immediately forthcoming and complete, then it is incumbant upon the international community to get rid of the regime.

In any case its a pretty awful comparison. If you really want the US to leave, then put down your weapons, protest peacefully, elect a government that asks us to leave.
