Background of the recent Hizballah’s assault on Israel

lebanon

About a month ago, and when I was in Beirut, Lebanese security exposed an Israeli assassins cell, that is well documented and I saw it myself on the Lebanese TV [Until today Israel never denied their link to the cell].

Lebanon says Israeli spy cell exposed

Which is a violation to UN security resolution 1559 [PDF].

The Lebanese government was planning to submit a formal complaint against Israel to the UN Security Council.

Guess who prevented Lebanon from doing so?

diplomatic pressure that has been placed on the Lebanese government, particularly by U.S. Ambassador Jeffrey Feltman…..Feltman even hinted that the affair might negatively influence American-Lebanese relations and U.S. military aid to Lebanon.

[This page was removed from Haaretz, but the cache link is still there].

[Ironically, found this headline yesterday: Israel weighing UN complaint against Lebanon]

This was the background of the last weeks events and who Hizballah prepared themselves to hitback Israel.
We miss one link here:

Hamas

Just one day before Hizballah’s assault [on Monday night], Palestinian president “Abbas got a telephone call from king Abdullah of Jordan for an urgent meeting, Abbas met with Abdullah for approximately 3 hours and then went back home.

Officially, the meeting was about:

He and the Jordanian King Abdallah II discussed a number of ideas to end the issue of the Israeli soldier abducted by Palestinian factions in Gaza.

Ideas being discussed to end Gaza Strip crisis – Abbas

Unofficially:

Sources from Palestinians in Beirut, the meeting was about Abdullah’s secret plan [dictated by the US and Israel] to overthrow Hamas government.

Hamas already made a deal with Hizballah to synchronize their attack in less than 24 hours after the meeting, turning the table around and using the situation in their advantage.

[Hizballah was ready for this action at least amonth ago but Hamas aksed them to delay it few weeks]

Whatever happens in the coming days, Hiaballh and Hamas succeeded to score few points at least among Palestinians and Shiia community in Lebanon.

Bringing the ME issue again in the front pages, proving that if Israel really wants peace, then they must sit and negotiate with them.

Paleos, Hizzies, Sunnis, Ayatollahs and their supporters all remind me degenerate gamblers playing against the HOUSE.

These players are so addicted that every time some of them lose everything, the house, the family even their life – the rest become even more greedy and full of lust, the worst is when when they win, they keep gambling until they lose again.

They are degenerate gamblers they live in order to beat the HOUSE, for centuries, they’ve tried dozens and dozens of methods and systems all for naught.

You’d think these degenerate gamblers would be addicted to the high of winning, But the more you listen and watch them, you discover they feel most alive when they are losing. What they remember are the losses, not the wins. The wins just slip through their fingers because they are addicted to losing. It’s quite simple really the Ummah must lose in order to feel alive; which btw is characteristic of all natural born LOSERS!

    THE HOUSE NEVER LOSES

None of the Christians I know hate Muslims. Maybe you’ve been hanging out with the wrong sort of people.

“forgot who nailed him to the cross?”

I’m betting that you were mistakenly thinking it was the Jews, when it was actually (or reportedly) the Romans.

ere the captured Israeli soldiers inside Lebanon?
    Category: Lebanon — Bob @ 12:14 am

From The National Council of Arab Americans blog

The Israelis so far have not been able to enter
Aita al-Shaab to recover the tank that was exploded by
Hizbullah and the bodies of the soldiers that were
killed in the original operation (this is a main
indication that the operation did take place on
Lebanese soil, not that in my opinion it would ever be
an illegitimate operation, but still the media has
been saying that it was inside ‘Israel’ thus an
    aggression first started by Hizbullah).

    ===============================

CONFIRMATION: ISRAELI SOLDIERS WERE INSIDE LEBANON
    WHEN CAPTURED
TRANSLATION OF SECOND PARAGRAPH: “Here facts:
Hezbollah requires since long years the release of
prisoners held by Israel, such as Samir el Kantar,
imprisoned since 1978, Nassim Nisr and Yahia Skaff
which is imprisoned since 1982. In many occasion, it
let know that the weather would not fail to be captive
in its turn Israeli soldiers – if Ci-that-Ci had been
suddenly introduced in Lebanon, and to use them like
monnaire of exchange. In a deliberated way, Tsahal
sent a commando in the Lebanese back-country to Aïta
Al Chaab. It was attacked by Hezbollah, making two
prisoners. Israel A then pretends to be attacked and
attacked Lebanon. Hezbollah, which prepared to face an
Israeli aggression that each one knew imminent since
the Syrian withdrawal, drew from the
    intermediate-range missiles on Israel. ”

This story, in French, confirms what the Asia Times
reported. Israel sent their soldiers across the border
into Aïta Al Chaab. It was there, on the Lebanese side
of the border, where Hezbollah took them prisoner.

    also the story is here:

    ‘Tyre, Southern Lebanon – Lebanon\’s pro-Syrian Shiite
movement is back in the spotlight after capturing two
Israeli soldiers on Wednesday, plunging the country
into a crisis that could lead to new violence in the
    region.

According to analysts here, Hezbollah followed in the
footsteps of the Palestinian movement Hamas, whose
militants last month captured an Israeli soldier
sparking a massive Israeli offensive into the Gaza
    Strip.

Despite the fear of a wide-scale Israeli assault
operation similar to Gaza\’s offensive, the capturing
of the two soldiers have prompted many Lebanese,
especially followers of the Shiite movement, to
celebrate with gunfire. The kidnapping was described
by Hezbollah chief Sheikh Hassan Nasrallah as the
\’honest promise to all Lebanese prisoners.\’

In the afternoon, the scene changed in the streets of
southern Lebanon, which was the target of 32 Israeli
raids that mainly targeted areas near the area where
the two soldiers were captured in Aita al Chaab, close
    to the border with Israel.

Asia times has also reported the sam:

‘It all started on July 12 when Israel troops were
ambushed on LEBANON’S SIDE OF THE BORDER with Israel.
Hezbollah, which commands the Lebanese south,
immediately seized on their crossing. They arrested
two Israeli soldiers, killed eight Israelis and
wounded over 20 in attacks inside Israeli territory.
    http://www.atimes.com/atimes/Middle_East/HG15Ak02.html

This supports the israeli provocation thesis, such as
    they used in 1967.

  8. Michael says:

Yes you are right Brian, the two Israeli terrorists were inside the Lebanon when they were arrested by Hisbollah. The point is however that Israel planned the invasion of the Lebanon before these 2 Israelis were arrested or before Hizbollah fired a single rocket.

Reservists called up for Lebanon strike

The IAF on Wednesday began to issue call up orders in preparation for retaliatory air strikes against Hizbullah targets in Lebanon, Channel 2 reported. The air force will target power stations and Hizbullah outposts inside Lebanon.

The army was also calling up reservists. Only weeks ago, an entire reserve division was drafted in order to train for an operation such as the one the IDF is planning in response to Wednesday morning’s Hizbullah attacks on IDF forces along the northern border.

A very high ranking military officer said that if the soldiers were not returned in good condition, Israel would turn Lebanon back 20 years by striking its vital infrastructure.

Israel launched the raids after Hezbollah, the Lebanese political and military organisation, attacked northern Israel on Wednesday killing eight soldiers and abducting two.

I haven’t seen any reports that the soldiers were inside Lebanon at the time of the attack. No one is covering that angle.

All the media outlets are saying the same thing (although they could be wrong of course).

Or by ‘Lebanon’ do you mean territory on the Israeli side of the current border that Lebanon claims?

  10. Jon says:

Charles – “I haven’t seen any reports that the soldiers were inside Lebanon at the time of the attack.”

One of hezballah’s MOs is to send in a rabbit to provoke a pursuit by a small unit and then ambush with overwhelming numbers. Not saying that’s what happened, but that’s probably what happened.

“Or by ‘Lebanon’ do you mean territory on the Israeli side of the current border that Lebanon claims?”

    True dat.

  11. Charles, wrong again, as usual.

The Lebanese Shiite Hezbollah movement announced on Wednesday that its guerrillas have captured two Israeli soldiers in southern Lebanon. “Implementing our promise to free Arab prisoners in Israeli jails, our strugglers have captured two Israeli soldiers in southern Lebanon,” a statement by Hezbollah said.

“The two soldiers have already been moved to a safe place,” it added. The Lebanese police said that the two soldiers were captured as they “infiltrated” into the town of Aitaa al-Chaab inside the Lebanese border. [Hindustan Times 7/12/06]

The Lebanese Hezbollah movement announced Wednesday the arrest of two Israeli soldiers in southern Lebanon. Lebanese police said that the two soldiers were arrested as they entered the town of Aitaa al-Chaab inside the Lebanese border. Israeli aircraft were active in the air over southern Lebanon, police said, with jets bombing roads leading to the market town of Nabatiyeh, 60 kilometers south of Beirut. Hezbollah Captures 2 Israeli Soldiers
    By JOSEPH PANOSSIAN , 07.12.2006, 05:41 AM

The militant group Hezbollah captured two Israeli soldiers during clashes Wednesday across the border in southern Lebanon, prompting a swift reaction from Israel, which sent ground forces into its neighbor to look for them.

The forces were trying to keep the soldiers’ captors from moving them deeper into Lebanon, Israeli government officials said on condition of anonymity.

    Here you go:

  12. Charles says:

Thanks TAI. Seriously. I have already seen the map. Aita Al Chaab seems to be right on the border.

The ‘wrong again as usual’ isn’t necessary. You links don’t prove anything.

I still don’t think it is entirely clear. The majority of media outlets, including al jazeera, reported it as a prisoner grab inside Israel.

The references to inside Lebanon may just be posturing dure to disputed boundary.

Has the Lebanese government said anything definitive on this?

There is obviously a big difference between an armed incursion into Israel to kill soldiers/snatch prisoners, and ambushing a patrol that is inside YOUR country.

In either case, its an escalation by Hezbollah with no approval from sovereign Lebanon, but the difference is still significant.

  13. Jon says:

Intereting stuff. How will this keep Lebanon from being bombed back to the stone age?
