Roads to Iraq

What is this “Kurdistan”?

It seems the US is going to create a new thorn in the Middle East, a new Israel called Kurdistan.

American advisor to Northern Iraqi Kurds claims independent state inevitable

Peter Galbraith, advisor in the US…..stated that a Kurdish state already exists in northern Iraq, claiming that it will soon formally declare its independence

Before writing anything, I rarely say anything about myself, but this is must be said for later arguments.

I am originally a Kurd from Baban family, saying Baban is enough for Iraqis but for westerners more information see this on Wikipedia.

Lived all my live in Baghdad, and learned to be “Descartian, which means to block out all emotional feeling, ethnic backgrounds or religion believe …etc in any discussions, writings…etc.

Iraq or Mesopotamia is the cradle of civilization; every society lived in the region left their own marks behind, enriching the history of mankind and these marks are still traceable until today.

Here I can see the Sumerians, the Babylonians with their new inventions, looking to the north I see the Akadians and the Assyrians, minorities now, massive empires then.

Walk around Iraq and in every centimeter in Iraq, you find, palaces, clay tablets statues…etc.

As the Kurds [self-claimed] a 4 thousand years civilization, yet we can’t find any artifacts from this “civilization” left behind, no palaces, no epics, no writings, no status, no paintings, no inventions, no discoveries, not even a single jar from the old times.

So the question is;

As this civilization failed to do anything in thousands of years, what can a new created Kurdistan adds to the region, to the human heritage?

Apologies if anybody felt insulted by my words, I am asking seriously.

P.S.
I wrote this very fast because I need to go out meet some friends, maybe you find flaws here and there, so excuse me, I repair it later.

“It seems the US is going to create a new thorn in the Middle East, a new Israel called Kurdistan.”

So, what to you propose be done for the Kurds? They deserve to live in peace, do they not? They aren’t getting that as a part of Iraq, are they? Maybe borders that they can patrol will offer them some peace.

  2. Michael

In that case it should be in Turkey, only about 18% live in Iraq. The closest they got to an autonomous state was under Saddam, neither Iran or Turkey thought much of the idea.

  3. Jon

Maybe you’re right. Oh well, looks like it’s going to be carved from part of the nation formerly known as Iraq. I guess you should have been pushing for peaceful action in Iraq instead of supporting terrorism as you do.

  4. Michael

If the Kurds gain any kind of independence in Iraq it will only be temporary.

  5. Jon

Nah, we’ll arm them to the teeth like we do Israel. They’ll be fine.

  6. Michael

If you did that Turkey would take them out very quickly.

  7. Jon

I doubt they could even if they would, which they won’t.

Well they’ve already bumped off more Kurds than Saddam ever did.

  9. Jon

Yet the Kurds keep on ticking. Hardy individuals those Kurds. True warriors.

  10. The partition of Iraq into a Kurdistan was reiterated by Barzani in 1974.

The current plan as envisioned by Galbraith pre-dates the Baath party and was re-invigorated after the 1973 Arab-Israeli war.

Iraqis know this. Non-Iraqis know rather little.

I suggest you pick up a copy of:

The Future of Iraq: Dictatorship, Democracy, or Division?
by Liam Anderson and Gareth Stansfield (Palgrave MacMillan 2005, 288 pp, Updated Version ISBN: 1403971447)

One of the authors traces his to Kurdish roots.

My uncle’s wife is half Kurdish herself. Making my cousins quarter Kurdish. In Mosul this is not a difficult composition.

Point is. United Iraq must be protected. Anyone seeking to partition Iraq from within cannot but be branded a traitor.

According to Anderson and Stansfield, Saddam had decided in 1970 that there would have to be a political settlement with the Kurds - under the so-called March Memorandum, the Kurds were granted autonomy, the right to speak and teach Kurdish, Kurdish newspapers and a cut of the oil proceeds coming from Kirkuk. However, US and Israeli intelligence agencies wreaked havoc on the understanding between Saddam and the Kurds.

    From the Book:

“In a Washington Post interview in the summer of 1973, Barzani had deliberately dangled a tempting carrot in front of the Unites States… ‘If America will protect us from the wolves we would control the Kirkuk [oil] field and give it to an American company to operate.’

This of course angered the Baghdad government. The deal with the Kurds was broken and

“full-scale hostilities looked inevitable and duly erupted in March 1974.

Hoping to weaken the central Baghdad government and punish it for the 1972 nationalization of oil, US and British intelligence units influenced Iran to deploy two full regiments in the north of Iraq.

It would only be when Saddam caved in to Iranian pressures and effectively signed over the Shatt-Al-Arab waterway in the Persian Gulf in 1975 that the Shah of Iran pulled his forces and stopped supporting the Kurds. By the end of 1975, the Kurds were crushed.

  11. True warriors: Iraqi resistance who have no government support, no state support and yet with a few weapons have managed to inflict more than 22,000 US wounded and kill 2600 in three years.

And they aren’t fighting only a coalition of so-called weakening willing but also Iran, Iran, Iran, something the US military is far too cowardly to do.

Gotta love ‘em, I tell ya. Many of those in the Iraqi resistance have total disregard for Saddam and his henchmen but are compelled to pick up arms after they bury their loved ones.

Wouldn’t be surprised if the extended family of Abeer’s (you remember her, right, the ones Jon and all the other Nazis on here wish they could have raped instead of US military hero Green) pick up arms to fight the murderous occupier.

    These are the true warriors.

I am very sorry for you Ladybird, what monster did this to you, well OK I know which one, but I’m sorry, I’m sorry we could do nothing to help you.
But there is hope, I have heard of programs that help deprogram this form of brainwashing. I would seek out professional help as soon as possible.

Thank you for reveling something about yourself and the relationship your family’s history has Kurdistan Ladybird. (sincerely)

I know that you’ve been a student of History and Ancient civilization Ladybird, PLEASE tell us what it was like to work with Margaret Hassan.

The Kurds are powerful Ladybird, realize that their genes are your genes and tough as hell.
    :-)

How else could they have occupied the most beautiful and bountiful parts of Iraq/Mesopotamia? After all the weather is better in Kuristan, the mountains supply the water for the rest of Iraq and the women are prettier!

    Sulaymaniyah (Silêmanî)
    Sulaymaniyah Governorate
    (PKK Country)
Partiya Karkerên Kurdistan = Kurdistan Workers Party

also known as KADEK and Kongra-Gel, is a militant group, aiming to create an independent Kurdish state in a territory (sometimes referred to as Kurdistan) that consists of parts of south-eastern Turkey, north-eastern Iraq, north-eastern Syria and north-western Iran. Its ideological foundation is revolutionary Marxism-Leninism and Kurdish nationalism. It is an ethnic secessionist organisation using force and threat of force against both civilian and military targets for the purpose of achieving its political goal. The PKK is listed as a terrorist organisation internationally by a number of states and organisations, including the USA and the EU.[1] (The Party for a Free Life in Kurdistan (PEJAK) based in northern Iraq and operating in Iran is associated with the PKK.)

TAI… are you on drugs? Is this some recurring rape fetish you have? Pull yourself together.

  16. True warriors: Iraqi resistance who have no government support, no state support and yet with a few weapons have managed to inflict more than 22,000 US wounded and kill 2600 in three years.

Yeah, and lost ten time that number, all so they can re-impose a brutal tyranny just like Saddam had. They’re stupid thugs, not glorious warriors.

The true warriors are the U.S. soldiers who freed Iraqis from Saddam’s monstrous regime and allowed Iraqis to practice democracy and freedom, and the Iraqis who join the ISF to keep it that way.

Now if your idiot insurgents would just stop blowing everything up, Iraq could be a decent place to live.
