A network of the US secret prisons in Africa

Accord­ing Le Monde news­pa­per that the US started a regional net­work of US secret pris­ons in East-Africa vio­lat­ing inter­na­tional law.

The net­work started in Kenya late Jan­u­ary with the arrest of hun­dreds of Soma­lis fled their coun­try because of the civil war head­ing to Kenya, detained by the Kenya army among them women and children.

Njonjo Moults, head of the of the Com­mis­sion human rights in Kenya KNCHR, said:

We asked to have access to the pris­on­ers. That was refused, with­out explanation.

Human­i­tar­ian orga­ni­za­tion counted at least 155 pris­on­ers from var­i­ous nation­al­i­ties were trans­ferred from Kenya to Somalia.

Soma­lia is just a pas­sage to other coun­tries like Ethiopia [Gode base where the US mil­i­tary are present] or to Dji­bouti [US mil­i­tary base ] were at least 22 pris­on­ers were exposed to tor­ture and mistreatment.

Arab nation­als of coun­tries in the Mid­dle East brought to Gode to be ques­tioned, tor­tured, and could be trans­ferred towards other coun­tries. Jor­dan and the Sul­tanate of Oman are quoted like prob­a­ble des­ti­na­tions, with­out it being pos­si­ble to estab­lish the role of the United States in these transferring.
