    LB,

The “self-interested model of human behavior” was not developed during the Cold War as this documentary claims. It was not subsequently adopted by economists.

It was detailed by the 18th century economist Adam Smith. Furthermore, it was also detailed by the American founders in the Federalist Papers as the basis of the proposed US constitution’s model of “checks and balances”. The idea was that every person being free to make choices according to his own benefit, collectively make choices that benefit every person. Those founders were in turn influenced by English Enlightenment political philosophers.

The self-interested model is at least 250 years old.

This documentary is not recording the history of freedom.

It meant to reveal how politicians and economists hijacked freedom

They did this 220 years ago with the founding the the US constitution?

The US Constitution and all liberty-based economics are founded on the self-interested model. Both presume on the selfish depravity of human motives and rather than trying to suppress them (wack-a-mole), it assumes depends on the self-depravity of the all individuals to keep those of the minority of individuals in check.
