Ban on Al-Hayat newspaper in Saudi Arabia

The Saudi Ministry of Culture and Information issued a ban on Al-Hayat newspaper since yesterday Monday 27-8-2007.

Although the newspaper owned by Saudi Prince Khalid bin Sultan bin Abdul Aziz, an anonymouse source from the Saudi ministry said:

This ban due to the different views between the management and editors of the newspaper especially after the newspaper insists on publishing sensitive topics on some issues involved the Saudi affairs.

Al-Hayat published yesterday an article about Saudi Arabia-Syria dispute, partially criticising Saudi Arabia policy with Syria:

Saudi Arabia usually deal the Arab-Arab differences with caution to keep these differences in the minimum limits and leaves room for negotiations, but Riyadh, and especially King Abdullah, had decided to adopt a harsh diplomatic offensive policy in dealing with Syria.

I worked in Saudi on and off for ten years. My book “PARAMEDIC TO THE PRINCE” was banned by the misistry of information in Saudi. I was on the medical team of King Abdullah. Although I felt my book was a fair insight in Saudi society. I know that the Saudi govement does not like the light shown on them.
