Exclusively reported on Al-Hayat today, a list of Iraq purchased weapons for the year 2007, Al-Hayat accuses the Americans of preventing the Iraqi army from accessing heavy arms.
The list shows the following:
1– 72 tanks, (T-55) and 77 tanks (T-72) Russian-made (leftover from the former Iraqi army????).
2– 1133 guerilla-war 60-mm mortars.
3– 360 offensive military vehicles (BMp-1) Russian-made.
4– 35 Brazilian Cascavel
5– 61 (MT-LB) personnel carrier Russian-made
6– 434 (BTR) personnel carrier Russian-made
7– 600 (DZIK) military vehicles Poland-made.
An anonymous source from the Iraq Ministry of Defense told the newspaper that the Americans are preventing the armament of the Iraqi army. Purchasing the weapons is done by an American agency called FMC Corp., the job of the Iraqi representatives is to make a list of their needs, this list must be approved by the Americans, do not allow the purchase of heavy weapons such as: artilleries and air-defense systems.
The source added that the Americans don’t trust the Iraqis.
