Syria failed to unite Iraqi Baath Party both wings

Reported yesterday by Al Malaf Press that Izzat Al Duri appointed Salim Al Sahaf as Baath Party representative in Syria [was the head of the Baath Party in Diyala before the occupation], removing the former representative Abdul Samad al-Hadithi.

Although, the website says that this change came because of the new De-Baathification law [Justice and Accountability].

I think this change is because of the news came last Mandy that Syria mediated between Baath Party both wings aimed to organize a conference with the participation of all Baath leaders to deal with the occupation and the political changes in Iraq.

The source said that instructions from Izzat Al Duri prevented the meeting and he told his followers that the recognition of Younis Al Ahmed-group means opening the door for further divisions in the future.

As far as I can tell from the automated translations, both of these news items are mischievous, reflecting the ongoing manoeuvres by various regional players, including Syria, to CO-OPT the Ba’ath and undermine its role in the Resistance. And anyway, isn’t Dr. Khudair Al-Murshidi (Abu Mohammed) Al-Douri’s political spokesman / representative in Syria?
