Google removed Abu Trika’s “Sympathize with Gaza” images from the internet

Reported on Saudi newspaper AL-Watan, Israel pressured Google to remove all the images of Egyptian footballer Abu Trika showing his T-shirt with the text “Sympathize with Gaza” [also confirmed by Al-Arabiya...or you can do the search by yourself].

Egyptian “Islamic Group” [Al Jamaa Al Islamiya] issued a rare statement, applauded Abu Trika action in an article called “Abu Trika…playing football or playing with fire” on their website, saying:

I cried from joy because the young generation feels the scale of the tragedy experienced by their countries….

I cried and cried and cried because saying “Sympathize with Gaza” become a crime requires punishment…..

Abu Trika, I salute you, you are an example for the youth…

Algerian newspaper El Khabar interviewed Abu Trika [English]

I think it’s normal, I’ve expressed a feeling; a natural feeling of any Arab…and if you ask any Arab about what is happening to Palestinians and Gaza population he would tell you the same…

    Its a shame.
I think the zionist are the biggest problem in the aria there.
    No problem whitout them.
The USA not always help then.
I think when the dollar is falling down the USA give a damn about israel, ans save its own world.
Then you see who are the friends of israel.
Better make friends and no war.

It turns out this story’s not true, it just took Google a few days to crawl the image (their image crawl is not instant):

So maybe the lesson is: Google, speed up your image crawl!

  5. This is not the first time Google is censoring. take a look:

Israel has put pressure on the web search giant Google to remove the picture above from its search results for the term ‘Abu Trika’ and it is also reportedly pressuring Fifa to sanction the player for “sympathizing with Gaza.” Abu Trika is a known Egyptian soccer player who celebrated his goal scored against Sudan during an African Nations Cup’s game by removing his jersey to show his support and sympathy for people of Gaza.
Now, the picture doesn’t appear for Abu Trika web search results, said the Dubai-based network. It’s worth mentioning that during the last world cup in Germany 2006 the Ghanaian player Pantsil has taken out from his socks and waved an Israeli flag in celebration of a goal he scored. Fifa has taken NO action against the player and Israeli medias have expressed their gratitude to the gesture of then Haifa Hapoel’s player’. Fifa bans all sorts of political messages to be expressed by players while on the field.

Anyone who cares to get this picture back at any search results, please sign this petition and send it to others.

You people are very ignorant. Israel is a free country where people can say and think and wear whatever shirt they want. Trika is free to go to Israel and wear that shirt on the streets or on television and the government cannot do anything about this. The idea they would pressure Google to remove the image shows how Arabs think, not Israelis.
