Today news agencies circulating a report about Sistani secretly issued [Jihad against the occupation] fatwa, I will show you the events happened timed around this report [which is in my opinion is a fake Fatwa and it is denied by Sistani].

In a way or another, the report connected to Maliki’s claims that Sistani supports the military operation against armed factions after Maliki’s visit to Sistani, a meeting according to Al-Iraq News never happened:

Al-Iraq News obtained confirmed information that Sistani refused to meet Maliki this morning [yesterday], and he gave the authority to his son Mohammad Sistani to meet the Prime Minister and speak in his name [Sistani].

Maliki’s statement even challenged by pro-Sadr clerics in Karbala and Kufa mosques today saying: “If the [supreme clerics] really support the [military operations] as Maliki said, then let them announce it in public”.

The imam in Kufa mosques questioned the credibility of Maliki’s claims after he met Sistani, that [supreme clerics] support the military operations, in Karbala, Al-Sadr representative Sheikh Mohamadawi said: “if this is true, then let the [supreme clerics] announce it in the Friday speech or via their representatives”.

It happened also that Sistani’s nemesis Al-Hae’ri, who lives in Iran and Muqtada Al-Sadr’s spiritual leader issued a statement [PDF], shows his rejection to the Iraqi — American long presence agreement, in a way that he deliberately wanted to embarrass the supreme clerics in Najaf saying:

From my fatherhood position I say: God saves what left of dignity, such agreement is not binding to anyone, this is a conspiracy against our nation, although we are busy with our own tragedies of hunger, displacement, starvation and deprivation, all this because of the Americans …our Hawza [supreme clerics] is holier, nobler, and higher than to accept such shameful agreement..

Both Maliki and the Sadrists are plying a religious game, the Sadrists with Al-Hae’ri statement are pressuring Sistani to reject the Iraqi — American agreement, and later leaked this false Fatwa to show Sistanis double standards, he supports military operations against the Sadrists while he rejects resistance operation against the occupation.
