Roads to Iraq

Haikal: The U.S. to stay in Iraq for 12 years

This is published on many Arab newspapers today, the speech of Mohammad Hassanein Haikal in which he explains the situation in the Middle East and Arab countries, sadly we don’t have the full speech except some briefings and Three minutes video.

Iraq

On the U.S. occupation of Iraq, Haikal said that the U.S. goal and its policy is the long presence in Iraq to seize the resources [Oil], despite the courageous Iraqi resistance and the American economic losses in Iraq.

Haikal said: “The problem is that Washington is trying to internationalize the war in Iraq”, expecting the presence of Arab military forces in Iraq in the coming two years under the slogan “Arab solidarity”.

The Americans would not withdraw from Iraq for 12 years, because they are occupying one of the largest Oil exporter country in the world and the Americans want all the Oil in the world. The U.S. is a country with policies and institutions and not a “Banana country” as we are.

Lebanon

Raising Hezbollah’s communications network was a very serious crisis which started with the assassination of the party’s most powerful commander Imad Mughniyah, whom security services of three Arab countries cooperated to kill him after he defeated Israel.

The pro-government brought a militia of 600 men and with the supportive American and French position they thought Hezbollah will take any action. Hezbollah moved decisively because the party is facing a question of life or death.

Syria

Haikal explains that he has a problem with the ruling regime in Syria because of the “inheriting-system”. I am worried about the regime in Syria it is the thermometer of the whole region. Assad the father was a very clever man he knew that there is no use of negotiating with Israel.

He explained that Iran is supporting Syria because of the absence Egyptian role, but Syria must find it’s own geographic weight in the region.

As for the Syria - Israel peace negotiations, he said that Olmert is not serious he is just wining time.

Arabs

We in the Arab world, we don’t know where we are heading to and what we want. I don’t understand why Egypt don’t recognize Iran, and why there no diplomatic relations between both countries so far.

I don’t understand why we as Arabs afraid from Iran obtaining a nuclear bomb after eight years from now, while we are not afraid from 150 Israeli bombs ready to be used.
