The Iranian role in Iraq – U.S. SOFA negotiations

It seems that Iran succeeded to force the Americans to accept a timetable for the withdrawal of their troops out of Iraq.

According to Al-Malaf Press, the Iranian government threatened Al Maliki to change his government if he accepts the SOFA agreement.

This was the real reason behind Maliki changing attitude against the agreement in Jordan announcing that the agreement reached a dead end.

Sources told the newspaper that the agreement is secretly accepted by Maliki’s government with a timetable back in May but people from inside Maliki’s office leaked the information to the Iranians.
