Jordan’s king visit to Iraq: commitment or desperation?

The conclusion made by the Guardian in their report “Jordan’s king in flying visit to Iraq” says:

Washington has been pressing its Arab allies is probably true, but it is not the only reason, at least in Jordan case:

A report published today on Al-Quds Al-Arabi about the circumstances that pushed king Abdullah of Jordan Abdullah to take such decision of visiting Iraq.

Saudi Arabia was a political maneuver card for the Jordanians regarding the Arab-Israeli conflict, Saudi moderation in the peace process scene with the Israelis emerged always as an strategic reserve in the hands of the Jordan.

The near “death” of Israeli — Palestine peace process and Jordan is also convinced that there is no future Palestinian State, these factors played a big role in the Jordan — Saudi Arabia relation’s “freeze”.

The Jordanian government did not have a final diagnosis of the Saudi neglect and unfulfilled Saudi “oil promises” to Jordan but it had its effects on Jordanian public and political opinion.

one thing the Newspaper didn’t mention, since the Saudi –Qatari relations improved, Jordan is a burned card according to the Saudis.

Saudi Arabia used Jordan before to flirt with Israel, Qatar right now is the better alternative and can provides more communication varieties with Israel than Jordan.

As we can see that the direct secret meetings between Israel and Saudi Arabia continued as reported by Al-Akhbar yesterday, after two years Hiatus [last direct meeting was in 2006, rumors said that Ahmad Chalabi mediated between the two at that time].
