Arabs reconciliation summit and a secret initiative
There are two stories about this sudden “Arab summit” between Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Lebanon and Oman. One story says that the summit is a mediation attempt among Arab leaders, the other story says it is about a new secret Arab initiative presented to the Palestinians. I think it is a combination of both.
Qatari newspaper Al-Raya came up with this story:
Arab diplomatic sources in Cairo, refers to a series of reconciliations campaign among Arab leaders, headed by people accepted from all sides the factions, for example, Sultan Qaboos bin Said of Oman, who visited Libya a few days ago.
Sources hint that in coordination with Egyptian President, Sultan Qaboos mediates between Saudi Arabia and Libya. Egyptian diplomat source did not deny that information pointed out that the nature of these contacts requires a degree of secrecy in order to reach positive results to besiege the Arab differences.
The sources also talked about the mediation of Egyptian-Saudi one side and Syria on the other, especially after sorting out the situation in Lebanon, the election of a new president, and then formation of a new Government.
The most important part of the report is this:
Officially the summit described by Cairo that it will focus on developments of the Palestinian cause, and the joint efforts to unify Palestinian factions and to stop internal fighting and revive the peace process between the Palestinians and Israel.
Palestinian newspaper Manar reported the last paragraph with more details saying that these meetings are started with secret contacts with the Palestinian factions to revive the reconciliation plan between Fatah and Hamas, warning them from what the United States and European Union plan against the Palestinian.
Nothing new with the fourteen points issued by the initiative except that Arab forces of three thousand led by Egypt to be present in the Gaza maintaining security.
