Al-Bayan writer Amrabi aks if the Arab adjusted their policies to the Russian — American new power struggle and how can they benefit from??

Russian comeback will effects our region and issues:

Arab nationalist writer Nahid Hattar in his article “wonderful world, Russia is back” counts the positives of the Russian comeback:

Syria will be able to return to strategic balance policy with of “Israel”. A policy that is now more realistic than ever, with the growing strength of Hezbollah. The Russian comeback will harden Damascus positions on foreign policy.….…No longer possible to talk about the withdraw of Hezbollah’s arms in Lebanon or change the equation in Lebanon.

A boost for Hamas role in the Palestinian arena at the expense of Abbas “authority”.….Modern Russian weapons will flow to Iraq and serious difficulties will face the American army in the ability of Iraqi fighters to destroy tanks and vehicles and helicopters, just as happened with the Israeli army in South Lebanon 2006.

  1. Personally, I think Russia was right to fight the Georgians, but the Russian “comeback” is only a creation of Western propaganda.

Russia hasn’t changed any of their policies and, for instance, hasn’t agreed to supplying weapons to Syria — not yet. I think that the middle east would definitely benefit from a new cold war (including giving Iraqis the means to defend against the Americans — as you suggest) but the West will have to push a lot harder before we get there.

On the other hand, Cheney *is* doing his best to stir up trouble in Georgia right now, and I notice also that Putin is saying that they found proof of US Special Forces personnel fighting with the Georgian army. So I have my fingers crossed …

This is exactly what the Russian ambassador in Saudi Arabia said in a interview I read today.
