Barzani — 1996 — The Irbil governor appointed by Saddam

The article published today on Al-Akhbar “When Saddam appointed Barzani governor of Irbil” reminded me about this year “1996” and this particular day 31 August.

At that day Barzani asked Saddam’s help to fight against Talbani’s PUK militia about who controls Irbil, both the Iraqi army and Barzani’s KDP managed sent Talabani’s militia away to the Turkish borders.

Saddam appointed Barzani as Irbil’s ruler and that was 31 Aug. 1996, the writer surprised that this day is one of the reasons that the U.S. wanted to “liberate” Iraq.

Everything above is well known by the Americans [see Global Security].

In August 1996, leaders of the KDP asked Iraqi president Saddam Hussein to intervene in the war. Hussein sent at least 30,000 troops into the UN-protected Kurdish region, capturing the PUK stronghold of Irbil. The KDP was immediately installed in power.

One of the strange events is that the American responded [for Saddam helping Barzani the U.S. ally] with bombing the south of Iraq.

U.S. military move a success later that day, pointing to the withdrawal of most Iraqi troops from the Kurdish region.

For sure Saddam did not offer his help for free. Barzani revealed very crucial information and a top secret to Saddam: There was a coup attempt motivated by the CIA and orchestrated by Gulf-States and Jordan.

Among the conspirators, three brothers live in Baghdad in the same street where I lived, the three of them are executed later.

Guess who are the brothers?

They are the sons of current intelligence service “Al-Shahwani”.
