Last hours SOFA agreement

Although the Green Zone newspaper Al-Sabaah reported today that the American forces will start the withdrawal of the troops to their military bases next February and the Iraqi government is waiting for the American answer within the next 24 hours, but there are two “unexpected things popped up today.

The United Iraqi Alliance opinion issued by Al-Saghir argues that Iraq needs guarantees from the UN or the Security Council to observe the agreement with the U.S., especially if the U.S. congress is not likely going to adopt this agreement:

There will be another American government, from the Republican Party or the Democratic Party, and the American congress will adopt this agreement… This agreement to be legally adopted by the UN or the Security Council to safeguard or position.…

Sources revealed to Kuwaiti newspaper Al-Watan that the negotiations will continue next week and both sides bargain on the “last hours” of this year as a deadline to sign the agreement.
