Al-Hakim’s fears of military coup

In his interview with Aswat Al-Iraq, Ammar al-Hakim, Vice Chairman of the Supreme Council expressed his fears from a military coup and gave a first indication that Shiite parties are re-thinking about their “traditional” alliance with the Kurdish parties because of the recent differences Al-Hakim said:

Legislation Law provincial council elections is a priority in the constitutional process, with the latest developments in the political process, the Council’s desire is to pass the provincial election law in parliament despite the unwillingness of some political blocs.

We noticed the lack of desire to hold the provincial elections in time, and we committed to the timetable approved by the Iraqi constitution.

About the Supreme Council’s fears of a military coup he answered:

Undoubtedly, the nature of the security situation in the country and the spread of terrorism in many areas in Iraq made the military institution to evolve rapidly and to fill the gaps is a great challenge.

Al-Hakim just mentioned exactly what I wrote yesterday about the fears of the growing military power.
