Syrian invasion of north Lebanon is understandable

I am not sure about the truth of Debka’s report that Syrian troops to invaded part of Northern Lebanon, but what I know is there is a missing link in this report which reported by Al-Akhbar yesterday saying:

Hariri speed up the reconciliation in North Lebanon, after receiving information from European sources saying; with the growing power of the extremists Salafi groups in Tripoli, any Syrian invasion of the north will be “understandable” by the western countries.

It is no secret that this “European accord” came from Sarkozy, and you can feel the improving relations between Syria and France in Al-Jazeera’s interview with Syrian foreign minister Al-Mualam yesterday where he quoted Sarkozy saying:

The United States should learn from the Europeans and the French president that Syrian geography and historic role put it main corner of the solution and stability in the region.

He also denied that the Sarkozy visit meant to mediate between the U.S. and Syria saying:

We don’t need a third party to mediate between Syria and the U.S. but we don’t deny the American role in the negotiations between Syria and Israel.

As for the Syria — Arabs relations, Al-Hayat reported that there are no improvements yet but the Gulf-States leaders will be surprised with the outcome of the U.S. — Iran negotiations.
