Roads to Iraq

Anybody noticed that all the inflammatory statements and comments about Kirkuk and Khaniqin crisis came from Barzani and his KDP party members? Talbani kept a law profile saying very little the whole time.

It seems that there are internal Kurdish disputes about the crisis according to albayyna-new newspaper quoting Kurdish magazine “Awyna” [no internet website]:

After the escalation of the disputes between the Kurdish leaders and the central government, Jalal Talabani sent a secret letter to Maliki asking him to find a quick solution to the crisis saying: “There would be no problems damage the historical relationship between the Shiites and Kurds, not before the fall of Saddam neither after. We must not allow the creation of any small problem.”

This internal Kurdish crack is confirmed by Saudi newspaper Al-Watan saying:

Kurdish sources said that Barzani showed his anger about the Iraqi president Jalal Talabani’s soft position towards Maliki’s actions of preventing the increase of Peshmerga militia outside Kurdistan territory.

According the sources Barzani contacted Talabani stressing on the importance that the Presidential Council should pressure Maliki to take flexible position from the Kurds.

Away from both links above and this is from my own information. Talabani stayed in the U.S. despite the end of his surgery is very upset from Barazani’s escalation because he don’t want to the Shiite coalition and not to loss Maliki because Talabani enjoys a greater role than his symbolic presidential role thanks to Maliki.
