The American pressure on Maliki

Very objective preview of Al-Qabas on Maliki’s position facing the American pressure saying that at one point in Maliki’s speech to the media revealed what exactly going on:

Maliki is not willing to show flexibility, and he expressed the need to obtain the “National Political Council” and the Parliament approval before signing the agreement. This is one of the things the American side tries to prevent.

They [the Americans] hope that the agreement would stay as a deal between the two governments, but Maliki does not want to take this responsibility alone, especially with the recent political climate.

The article continues saying that all the American pressure on Maliki to speed up the signing was unsuccessful which left them with two options only:

- Accepting the Iraqi conditions.

- Create political and security repercussions
