The U.S. is angry with Barzani

Chalabi told Al-Hayat today that one article in the security agreement gives the U.S. forces to use their military bases in Iraq to attack other countries.

Chalabi said that point 4 from article 5 says that both sides [Iraq, U.S.] have the right to defend themselves, and he added that this is a very flexible point.

According to the Kurdish newspaper Hawlati, Washington is very upset with recent Barzani’s visit to Iran because he didn’t coordinated this visit with the Americans.

The source said that the Americans want to distance the Kurds away from Iran but Iran wants to give a message to the Americans that the Kurds are more close to Tehran than to Washington.

The newspaper concludes that Barzani’s visit to Iran is an answer to the U.S. support for Maliki in the Iraqi government crisis with Kurds about Kirkuk.

That explains the reason behind the U.S. State Department’s invitation for Barzani.
