Old argument about Kurdistan separation and Shiite crescent raised again by Kurdish writer Sami Shourash trying to explain Barzani’s separation threat. The evidence I found tells a different story.

Shourash wrote the following on Jordanian Al-Ghad:

Some believe that the Iraqi Shiites want to push the Kurds to separate from Iraq to reduce the Sunni Arabs minority in to 13% allowing the Shiites total control on Iraq, its economic and diplomatic affairs.

This will transform Iraq into the second largest Shiite state in the world, and will pave the way for the realization of the Shiite crescent.

I don’t see this, the most popular Shiite newspaper “AlBayna AlJadida” [no link allowed, short report on Akhbar-Alkhaleej] says that an agreement made among Shiites media to not to use the term “Kurdistan” any more. Instead the media will use “Northern Iraq” or Kurdish Areas” because the previous term establishes “separation” and “division” [notice that the newspaper counted three provinces Irbil, Sulaimaiya and Dihok no more]:

The editors [of the newspaper] decided to use “Northern Iraq” instead of the term “Kurdistan”. The Kurdistan means for us to divide Iraq into a mini-states and we strongly reject this.

The word Kurdistan also is an Israeli word, as admitted by the Israeli newspaper Maariv, hoping that the Kurdish understand the motives behind this decision.

  1. The Arab-minset, Kurdistan, Kurdistan, Kurdistan, there will always be a Kurdistan. We never give up, we never turn our back.

If Iraq tries to restrain Kurds, it will a major backlash to for the so called Iraq. Then maybe the North, East and South Kurdistan struggle will become one struggle finally.

Saddam couldn’t stop the Kurds, he could really make those Shiites feel fear.

  2. @ Welat: What makes you think that USrael is a friend of Kurds? From your comments it seems that you do not have any idea what those “friends” are plotting against the Kurds at this very moment..

Google for WWII, Ukraine, Nazi, Occupation, etc. to see who’s the one that’s plotting against the Kurds instead of Arabs, Sunnis or Shi’ites…

  3. @ Welat: Helping you to get started, here’s another way to grasp the true meaning of the Israeli word “Kurdistan”, the headline providing a synonym “Palestinians”:

  4. I really couldn’t care less if all of Palestine or Israel would turn to dust. We Kurds know that we don’t have friends. But I would love to befriend someone that dose not deny my identity or would want me ill.

  5. We definitely not want you or the Kurds any ill, neither do we have anything against the Sunnis, Shi’ites, Turkmen, Christians or any other Iraqis: the point is that by puppeting the “sectarian conflict” the USrael very much does so — and they’re not finished with that…

Apologies if having given such an impression and thank you for letting LB to work.
