Silent Egypt – Turkey confrontation

Arab newspaper’s editorials weren’t prepared for Davos event of yesterday, but the few I found are really informative.

article, mentioning an important point:

But Erdogan hit the west where it hurts saying:

Hamas had been elected democratically, and the international community should respect this choice, and must include Hamas to the negotiations with Abbas , side by side because Hamas is part of the Palestinian fabric.

What Turkey wants to do?

For sure Erdogan’s position in Switzerland, didn’t come from emptiness, he understands what is happening in the region, and well aware that Israel’s domestic front right now is in a very “fragile” position because of the coming elections and, therefore, this is Turkey’s time to play the role of the mediator, not only between Israel and Syria, but also between the United States and Arab countries.

Where is Egypt in this?

Turkey returned to the game with high popularity at home on the one hand, and across the Arab world on the other. Meanwhile, the Egyptian president is still trying to recover his country’s role as a corridor for any agreement in the region between Israel and any other party.
