Betting on a losing Iranian horse

Arab and Western media put all the bets on Khatami’s candidacy.

Egyptian writer Fahmy Hawaidy explains why they are betting on a losing horse:

If Khatami loses the election, he will end his political career, and if he wins, he will not be able to accomplish his promises. The Iranian institutions are dominated by the conservatives, who will not allow him to pass anything without their approval.
