The report goes on saying that the US noticed Al-Duri’s success cooperating with Saudi Arabia, Syria and Egypt in the formation of the Awakening Council to fight Al-Qaeda.
Some interesting part in the report says that the US wants to revive the pan-Arabism – at least to attract sympathy with the idea – as the last resort to counter the Iranian influence on Arab countries and Arab-Shiites.
Criticized by the Sadrists saying that both Maliki’s Dawa and Al-Hakim’s Supreme Council are in a race to talk with the Ba’athists, Al-Watan says that the Supreme Council officially rejected the idea of reconciliation with the Ba’athists (Al-Hakim needs to explain the recent meeting between Adil Abdul Mahdi and Mohammad Sheikh Radhi leader of the Syrian faction Ba’ath Party).
But we have one hint from Al-Malafpress saying that the last last meeting with Syrian faction Ba’ath Party is the Supreme Council’s own initiative to create confusion in Maliki’s plan of hosting talks with the opposition.
As for Al-Rukabi’s talks with Maliki government (read yesterday’s; Reconciliation without reconciliation), it was a surprise for me since Al-Rukabi is nearly unknown among Iraqi oppositions, but Al-Zubaidi’s report on Al-Akhbar explains further calling it “Al-Rukabi’s adventure”:
Sources connect Al-Rukabi’s initiative and the presence of the Ba’ath Party Syrian faction with the improving relation between Syria and the US, others put it as part of Maliki – Al-Hakim competition.
