Obama’s trick in Cairo University — Arab media preview

AlHayat poll [left sidebar] shows that the majority of the Arabs (34% till writing these lines) think that Obama’s speech is only words well put together but don’t change the reality.

On the same newspaper Walid Shuqair acknowledge the importance of the speech saying that this the first time a US Administration includes a self-criticism on its policy in the region … However:

This speech was incomplete regarding the Palestinian — Israeli conflict. It shows that despite Obama’s semi-firm tone about the continuing building of settlements in Israel and ignoring the two-state solution, the US — Israeli relation never been subjected to some kind of preview.

To improve the US image in the Arab and Muslim world is to improve the policies and not a failed PR campaign.

We can feel this (Good … but) mentality in Bari Atwan op-ed on Al-Quds Alarabi also saying:

There is no doubt that Obama’s intentions are good, and his desire for reconciliation is serious, but intentions alone are not enough,

For Subhi Hadidi: Obama is trying to sell a bad wine in new bottles.

The writer criticizes the White House Blog entry “

The US – Islam relation can be simply put as: Total US bias to Israel. The writer did not count the role of the same US presidents in legitimizing the Israeli occupation of Palestine.

As for Qatari newspaper AL-Sharq editorial:

In our opinion, the content of Obama’s speech did not include a fundamental change in American policies on the Palestinian issue. It focused mostly on the need to consider Israel a “Jewish state”, which is the same agenda of the Israeli right extremists by linking the stability and the development in the region with recognize and normalize the relations with Israel.

Al-Bayan gives us a general view on the speech saying:

Overall his speech was like recommendations, rather than promises, but it is clear that he does not have the formula to solve the problems and the hatred between the Islamic nation in general and especially the Arab; and the United States. He did not come with anything new.

Al-Arab AlYoum says:

The speech did not reach the expectation level, contains many already known and agreed upon issues, without the annunciation of decisions or programs related to the these issues.

Al-Khaleej asks: What Obama wants?

Stop the resistance against Israel and much more than the Arab Peace Initiative, the recognition of Israel by Arab countries, which means more concessions from the Arabs.

The details article published on Middle East Online written by Adil Al-Georgi called “

The reality is that Obama’s project matches exactly the Big Middle East project which is on table since Clinton’s Administration (1992–2000):

The American president spoke about democracy, while he is a guest of a President in office since 1981, and was a guest of the King (Saudi), a remnants from the Middle Ages, any credibility to his words about democracy, justice and dignity?
