Parliament disputed points

First update on the election:

- Former head of the Intelligence service Al-Shahwani will enter the political arena as a candidate. Unknown if he will form his own list or joins one of the lists.

- In press conference held today, 32 political blocs and parties announced joining a coalition with Allawi’s “Iraqi List” (see the list of the 32 blocs below).

The blocs vary from tribal chiefs to independents such as “Pachachi”, but there is one interesting and little known Dawa Party split group “The Cadres of Islamic Dawa”.

Here are the details about this group:

It was a small organization called “The Cadres of Islamic Movement” inside” Dawa Party, the organization announced the split from in Syria –1991, the Movement justified the split for these three reasons:

1– The absence of the real mature Islamic initiative.

2– The lack of Islamic action, and the external influence of Iranian Shi’ite Islamists.

3– The lack of taking advantage of the external factors in benifit of Iraq.

Disputed points in the Parliament

- Disputed on Kirkuk province — proposals from the Arabs to postpone the elections, as had happened in the last provincial council elections, while the Kurds reject this proposal.

- The open and closed lists: Most political blocs prefer a closed list, because it allows them to choose the candidates themselves to be members of parliament (I will post more detailed article about this soon).

- Single– or multi-constituency electoral districts.

- The increase the number of seats in Parliament from 275 to 310.
