Kirkuk deadlock continues

Despite the special treatment in visit to Washington, it seems that the Americans insist to make Maliki’s life more miserable than it already is. Influential Kurdish MP Mahmoud Uthman said today the following:

Kurds have received a green light from the U.S. embassy to include Kirkuk to the Kurdistan region if the parliament reaches a (chauvinist) decision giving Kirkuk a special status.

I am not sure if this is true, if not then the US embassy should release a statement that explains its position.

But there is one proposal made by Adel Abdul-Mahdi and not widely mentioned by the media (the Kurdish Alliance already rejected it). Mahdi’s proposal is to ran the elections in Kirkuk on schedule according to the two electoral two constituencies. One constituency will include the 2004 registry (and based on the regular growth), and the second constituency will adopt the votes of the transferred Kurdish families.

After the election a Committee will recheck the second record, if proved that half of those who were in the second record are residents of Kirkuk, then seats will be added to the Kirkuk province Council.

Again the above solution is rejected by the Kurds, but in general the proposal is not so bad, kind of mix between all other proposals.

The other interesting thing reported on Azzaman today:

One of the active INA members “Jalal AL-Din Al-Saghir on his website burathanews is spearheading all the attacks on Maliki.
