The election law today

- The only reason not reported in the Times “Iraq Government bans alcohol sale” is reported here few weeks ago “The opposition’s strategy to crash Maliki’s government”.

- What is going on right now on the election law is following:

US ambassador in Iraq Christopher R. Hill came with a plan which is rejected by the Arabs and Turkmen saying that his plan reached a dead end.

But Both (Arabs-Turkmen, even the Sadrists) accepted UNAMI’s plan(s) (they came with two plans:

- Create three constituencies in Kirkuk, where the seats are divided to five seats for the Kurds, Three for the Arabs and three for Turkmen (which is about the same as the current situation).

- Elect the members of the Council in Kirkuk temporary, to resign after one year. A facts-finding committee will check the votes in this year.

The plans accepted by the Arabs and Turkmen by vetoed by the Kurds. Independent MP Izuldin Al-Dawla said that the Parliament is very week, negotiations between the big political blocs decide the outcome.
