Houthis dictate the course of the war in Yemen

A video shows that the Houthis man­aged to con­trol “Dokhan Moun­tain” on the Saudi bor­der with­out fir­ing a sin­gle shot, they just sim­ply nego­ti­ated with the Saudi bor­der guards.

Many reports on the Saudi involve­ment in Yemen-war after the Houthis attack on the bor­der area, but lit­tle said about the Asir region is orig­i­nally a Yemeni area occu­pied by Saudi Ara­bia with the so called Al-Taif Agree­ment ll — 2000 (first one was in 1934). Saudi Ara­bia forced Yemen to sign the Agree­ment in exchange for the halt the Saudi sup­port for the South-Yemen sep­a­ratists (map of Yemen with Asir region).

Until few years ago Asir was a dis­puted area, there was even a failed assas­si­na­tion attempt on the Saudi ambas­sador in Yemen back in 1991 because of Asir, when an armed Yemeni man hold the Saudi ambas­sador as a hostage for 24 hours.

How the Houthis con­trol the rules of war:

- The Houthis, are not a tra­di­tional guer­rilla any­more, they become a semi-military force fights a war with tech­ni­cal, infor­ma­tion and media capabilities.

- The Houthis are very active on the inter­net, pro­duce images and videos of the defeated Yemeni army or the killing of civil­ians. In many occa­sions, Houthis infor­ma­tion mate­ri­als embar­rassed the Yemeni government.

- The Yemeni gov­ern­ment repeat­edly said that end­ing the con­flict is very near, but in real­ity the war is spread­ing in a wider range and across the bor­ders. This fact will affect the cred­i­bil­ity of the Yemeni gov­ern­ment, and gives the Houthis more credibility.

- The war between the Yemeni army and the Houthis extended out­side the bor­der, which means that the Houthis are the side who lead the course of the war. The Houthis forced Saudi Ara­bia to admit its involve­ment in the war after a long time of con­ceal­ing this reality.
