What if the Kurds boycott the election?

Just when everybody started to celebrate (especially the Americans) the approval of the election law, the Kurds opposed the law once again to take the discussion back to the start point.

Barazani threatened to boycott the election if the Kurds demands are not met, which are:

- corrects number of the population of the Mosul province.

- Adjust the allocation ratios of Kurdish parliamentary seats.

- Increase in the number of seats for minorities.

It’s too early to know how the parliamentary blocs and coalitions (especially the Arabs) will respond to these demands since the Arabs themselves are scattered among many big and small political blocs, not to mention the state of chaos and tension, of the Prime Minister or Nuri Al-Maliki and weak “State of Law” Coalition.
Return to the Kurdish threat.

Fuad Hussein” Chief of the Kurdistan region presidency office described the new election law, as a major forgery targeting Kurdistan region and all the democracy gains in Iraq… Aswat Iraq 17-11-2009

Carefully selected words and there are no slip of the tongue here, Hussein saw it a “last chance” to remove the injustice on the Kurdish people” as put by the statement released by the Kurdish parliament two days ago. Trying to escalate the crisis, Massoud Barzani believes that the purpose of this is to reduce the number of the Kurdistan MPs in the Parliament.

Can the Kurds delay the election?

The possibilities are open and depend on the alliances and coalitions Kurds can manage to neutralize, but the Kurds will not risk to take the responsibility of the election delay consequences .… The Kurds will try to raise the tone of the threat, but they don’t want to give the Arabs (despite their differences) a chance to agree on one goal of refusing the Kurds demands.

The only reason allows the Kurds to take such risky option is that they are aware of the existence of changes or regional deal “Iraqi parliament, the new Iran – U.S. conflict arena
