A funny situation and exchange of words between Al-Hashimi and Al-Alusi.

Alusi called to withdraw confidence from AL-Hashimi, because he is one who caused sectarianism, Al-Hashimi answered: “People who live in glass houses … Those who secretly sneak at night to visit Israel must be charged with high treason”.

(Some exchange of words between Hashimi and Maliki also reported on Al-Sharq Al-Awsat, after Maliki called Hashimi’s veto “unconstitutional”).

As for the situation right now, last news says that there are no agreement yet. Sunnis and seculars are a bit irritated with Washington’s position from the whole issue, one communist activist in the parliament put it like: “The Americans are more interested in passing the new election law than implementing real democracy”.

Even Biden’s telephone call to Hashimi, couldn’t solve the deadlock, as stated by Hashimi’s announcement today, leaving the options open: “There is nothing serious in the solutions we heard about till now”.

Which is also, said by other MPs such as Al-Karbuli: “Negotiations with Al-Hashimi are still below the acceptable level”.

Display of Power?

It is clear that what is happening now is a test of strength and power between the parties that benefited from the new amended law and Hashimi and his supporters. AL-Hayat sees that at the end Hashimi will accepts the new law, explains:

Sunnis are shocked when discovered that they cannot change the de-facto equation on the ground, to widen their options, they choose to join coalitions with Liberals and seculars, but even those are besieged by the complexity nature of the electoral mechanisms, which will blocks their chances.
