King Abdullah of Jordan named Samir Rifai as the new Prime Minister and number 38 PM in Jordan’s history. A dynasty inherited this post for three generations, his father and grandfather both were prime ministers.
What is new, is that unlike his father and grandfather the current generation are not the same as the old bureaucrats, but a new class of businessmen. No management and political skills, but money and business, Samir Rifai comes from the management board of Dubai Capital Group.
Remarkable is that the Jordan Islamists declared their position from the new government, even before it is formed by releasing a statement today (Thursday) attacked the inheritance of certain families top positions saying “the name does not sound optimistic.”
Why the businessmen?
In September this year, Jordanian writer Mahir Abu Tair wrote the following in his article “The settlement conspiracy through the economic pressure”
Jordan’s debt reached eleven billion dinars JD, and the solution can not be solved economically, it is a political solution. What the world wants from Jordan, is difficult and very heavy. Washington and Tel Aviv and other regional nations [Saudi Arabia] want the full resettlement [of the Palestinians] in Jordan.… The world wants to bring Jordan down to accept any deal.
Last hope
The title of the article published today on Jordanian daily Al-Ghad is “Iraq … our last hope?”
Few people know that Jordan’s exports to Iraq during the first nine months of this year formed a kind of lifeline. Last year national exports fell at 700 million JD, a dramatic drop in all measurements, .. Until the end of September — Jordan’s exports to Iraq increased from 413 to 450 million, Iraq is returned to be the second market for Jordanian exports, and with the pace, Iraq will return next year to become, the first export market for Jordanian goods.
