Sec­ond, Maliki’s Dawa Party can­di­date Walid Al-Hali failed to obtain the required votes to head the renewed De-Baathification com­mit­tee “Account­abil­ity and Jus­tice” (all other can­di­dates also failed).

That wasn’t very much a cri­sis as I thought, described by AL-Sharqiya TV as: “Maliki’s hear­ing ses­sion was more a speech than ques­tion­ing the Prime Min­is­ter”. The first leak came as “break­ing news” on the TV this morn­ing say­ing: “Maliki told the par­lia­ment that explo­sions and vio­lence will con­tin­ues even after the election”.

The MPs asked Maliki 14 ques­tions only, but MP Omar Al-Haigil said: “Most MPs were silent, and the ques­tions made by the few MPs are too soft on Maliki”

Secu­rity is everybody’s respon­si­bil­ity includ­ing the par­lia­ment, … Bud­gets for the secu­rity ser­vices suf­fer from lack of money and this is what pre­vent­ing secu­rity insti­tu­tions from doing their job in a pro­fes­sional man­ner, … There is no chief of intel­li­gence ser­vice, because of the polit­i­cal inter­fer­ence and each polit­i­cal party wants to dom­i­nate this device, … Awak­en­ing Coun­cils also require money and the gov­ern­ment can not afford it, .…. The issue of secu­rity ser­vices need to be cleaned from mili­tias mem­bers loyal to dif­fer­ent polit­i­cal par­ties, so that we can build national secu­rity forces, …
