Despite the reports published on every newspaper on Earth that Egypt is building an underground steel wall across Rafah-Crossing, which is an old Israeli idea since 2007 [links are outdated], Egyptian government keeps denying these reports.
Egyptian newspaper Al-Shorouk quoted eyewitnesses saying that not only 5km of the steel wall is already done but the new construction includes tunnels monitoring devices.
18 meter tall, 50cm wide, for each steel sheet, the newspaper added that American technicians on the Egyptian border with the Gaza did most of the construction work.
True or not (or how Fahmi Hawadi put it: There are determined effort being made to tighten the siege on the Gaza), there are other ways to know the truth behind the steel wall story.
The same newspaper reported yesterday that for the first time ever and contrary to the previous years, the U.S. aid to Egypt (Mubarak regime) in 2010, which is about $48.76 Billion will be unconditional because of Egypt’s good cooperation and assisting the U.S. in the Middle East. Probably, this is the reason behind yesterday’s attack on a car belongs to the American aid to Egypt by gunmen in Sinai.
If Gaza smugglers can dig a tunnel that can smuggle cars through the borders, then we and Gaza smugglers are confident they can beat Egypt’s underground barrier.
