The Yemeni government Strikes Against Qaeda in Abein province, according to Aljazeera video clip shows civilians, women and children killed by the air raid. Eyewitnesses said that it was an American helicopter did the bombing (maybe that explains the telephone contact between Ali Abdullah Salah and Obama after the strike).
Yemeni newspaper Al-Sahwa reported that whole families wiped out in the strike. MP Ali Hussein Ashal told the newspaper:
We were surprised by this operation. It shows the stupidity of those who ordered it, they killed and terrorized innocent civilians.
Former South-Yemen president Ali Salem Al-Beidh released an angry statement saying 62 civilians killed among them 47 women and children:
We want to inform the people that Sana’a’a of killing Al-Qeda in south Yemen are baseless. Everybody knows that Sana’a’s regime is the one who protected this organization.
As an answer to the above statement, the Yemeni government called countries that provide refuge to Al-Beidh and his aide Mohammad Ali Ahmed to extradite them with a charge of alliance with Al-Qaeda.
