Despite the calls from many writers and scholars arguing that aiding the Yemeni government will only worsen the situation:
- Help Yemen, not its government.
- Yemen intervention risks ripple effect.
The U.S. insists on helping the Yemeni government financially.
What the so called experts won’t tell you about Yemen, is that it is the “biggest” Anti-American country in the Middle East. I never met a single Yemeni man or woman who you can call “moderate” (according to the western definition) ~ You can watch yesterday BBC — Michael Portillo’s Closing Guantanamo (torrent) to prove my point.
The undeclared dimensions of fighting Al-Qaeda in Yemen:
- Al-Qeda presence in Somalia is much stronger, but there are no calls from London and Washington to internationalize the situation in Somalia.
- The presence of Al-Qaeda in the Saudi Arabia and Yemen is not new, and there were no serious confrontations against the organization from both countries.
- It seems that the involvement of Al-Qaeda in the Iraqi conflict during the past years, has postponed of the confrontations the Gulf-States and Yemen, and the clearest indications of this, that hundreds of Saudis and other Gulf-States have been detected as Al-Qaeda activists in Iraq.
- There are hundreds of al-Qaeda members in Yemen, and they are present with the approval of the Yemeni authorities.
- The Yemeni authorities used to wage arrest campaigns against al-Qaeda members. After receiving the U.S. aid, they are released, to be arrested again, and this scenario goes on repeatedly for several years.
- The Saudi authorities continued to pressure the Saudi-Al-Qaida (and non-Saudis), within the Kingdom, but, what is interesting; is that the Saudi authorities ignored or tried to ignore the increasing presence of Al-Qaeda in Yemen. The Saudi authorities pushed Al-Qaeda to go to Yemen a safe haven.
- There are 40 — 50 Saudi Al-Qaeda leaders in the organization (according to Saudi newspaper Okaz).
- Pakistani intelligence also involved in many of the deportation of Al-Qaeda members to Yemen, creating the impression that Yemen will be a new safe haven, which helps reduce the risk of concentration of the organization members in Pakistan.
The increasing pressure on Al Qaeda in the Arab Peninsula (or in Yemen), will be automatically transfers the “battle arena” to Saudi Arabia and the Gulf-States, and that will provide a justification for the U.S. to concentrate its presence in Saudi Arabia and the Gulf-States. Most likely to be used to obtain the acceptance of the Gulf countries to cooperate with Israel in “counter-insurgency” operations, and lead to normalize the relations with Israel.
