Pressure from the highest levels in the U.S. administration on the Iraqi Gov. to return a faction of the Baath Party to power, the sources said, that the pressure came in the context of “orders from the U.S.” given to Vice-President Adil Abdul Mehdi, during his visit last week to Washington, which made Mehdi to head to Tehran shortly after his return from Washington to obtain Iran’s permission to abandon its position of the exclusion of 522 candidates.
Add to the above a report published ~ Aljazeera 22-01-2010, about meetings held between leaders of Kurdish Alliance and the Baath Party revealed by Maliki’s Dawa Party leader “Ali Al-Adeeb, and not denied by Kudhair Al-Murshdi Baath Party spokesman said:
Maybe there are individual meetings between the Baathists and Kurds, both have an old ties of friendship, there are a large number of Kurdish officials in [former] Gov. positions in Baghdad and other provinces.
