An old saying in Iraq: “Want a rabbit? You get a rabbit … Want a goat? You get a rabbit”, used in a situation, where there are two options available, but people are forced to choose the “pre-planned” option.
The announcement came after four days of a similar call made by the prime minister, Nouri Al-Maliki, to the parliament to hold an emergency session.
This call coincides with threats made by the excluded politicians to take a firm stand from the political process in the country in case their appeals rejected by the Panel.
Al-Mutlaq Said in a speech before a gathering of his supporters:
Political blocs wish to remove the nationalists from participating in the the next elections … The Iraqi justice system faces a major task and we are waiting for the word of truth.
Al-Hayat revealed today that a secret Shiite — Kurds agreement to activate Article VII of the Constitution, on all political parties and movements headed by persons who are included by the “J and A” decision to prevent their parties from participating in the election.
Reading these sharp contradiction in attitudes among the different blocs, the demonstration against the excluded politicians and the political pressure on the Panel, all the previous events showed that the Panel is heading to exclude the politicians (if not, then the sectarian parties provided them with a free Ads campaign).
The pressure on the Panel from one side and the declaration of the need not to politicize the work of the Panel from other hand, left the Appeals Panel with:
Want a rabbit? You get a rabbit … Want a goat? You get a rabbit
