Syria … Saudi Arabia and the formation of the Iraqi government

Time is running out, and nothing in the horizon confirms the possibility of reaching a satisfactory political solution that would stop the UN Security Council from taking a decision in its meeting (within five days) on the Iraqi government crisis. The expectations are -) appointing a governor in Iraq -) an Iraqi national unity government.

At the same time, Shiites coalitions started to circulate the existence of a regional conspiracy to withdraw power from the Shiites under the pretext of failing to maintain power or agreed to nominate a candidate for the premiership.

According to the last news leaks, both Shiite coalitions joined by influential religious authorities and in coordination with Tehran started to intensify their high-level meetings to adopt a unified position before the Security Council meeting on the Fourth of August next month.

Also the Shiites coalitions started to link between the meeting of the Security Council and the current visit of the Saudi King Abdullah to Egypt, Jordan, Syria and Lebanon, which comes at a critical time of the Iraq issue.

This link is confirmed with the new information revealed by Al-Iraqiya leader “Fattah Al-Sheikh”, saying that Saudi Arabia and Syria are cooperating to appoint Allawi as Iraq’s Prime Minister, same as the appointment of Lebanese Prime Minister Sa’ad Hariri a year ago after an agreement between the same both countries.

Iran seems to accept Maliki (as long as he is not Allawi), the most interesting development in the previous days is that both major Shiites blocs (the Sadrists and the Supreme Council) for the first time, publicly started to challenge Iran and the supreme clerics by insisting on rejecting Maliki
