I am not sure if people noticed the importance of statement released by the Sadrists Al-Araji few days ago, in which he said:
Sadrists do not want to link between the Bahrain issue and the Arab summit because the people Bahrain are free to decide for themselves.
This comes as a big blow to Ahmad Chalabi’s efforts on the Bahrain issue, which has taken a sectarian dimension. Chalabi threatened that Iraq will intervene in Bahrain.
It seemed that the National Alliance (state law and the National Coalition) are no longer able to deal with the Arab summit crisis and this started a test of power between Maliki and Nujaifi. Parliament Speaker Osama Nujaifi took the initiative, and has stepped up his contacts in recent days in order to create the appropriate atmosphere to hold the Arab summit scheduled in Baghdad next month.
But despite Al-Nujaifi efforts and according to leaked information on Zebari’s discussions with the Arab foreign ministers; that Baghdad wants to apologize to Manama about the rough language used by the Bahraini government in dealing with demonstrations and protests which is the reason behind the GCC countries call to postpone the summit.
To solve this deadlock away from embarrassment, the leak referred that the Arab foreign ministers are discussing one of the two options, the first is to postpone the Arab summit, without specifying a new date. The second is cancel the Arab summit for this year (probably the first option, the Arab summit to be held in March next year).
