Sadr to accept the US presence in Iraq! Syria is toying with the Americans

After less than a day since he released his statement vowed that Iraq to become a graveyard for Americans, Muqtada Al-Sadr changed his position to accept the presence of the US troops in Iraq.

Sadrist leader in the Iraqi parliament said that there is no objection of his movement in the presence of part of the U.S. Special Forces for training the Iraqi forces after 2011.

The statement is a significant shift in the position of the Sadrists Movement, Amir Al-Kinani added that the presence of the US forces should be on the basis of a bilateral agreement between the Iraqi Ministry of Defense and its US counterpart, and not as part of the signing a treaty between Baghdad and Washington.

Confusing and contradicting messages, expressed by Al-Iraqiya MP Mahmmod Al-Khalidi:

Yesterday Al-Sadr declared that he will not lift the freeze on the Mehdi Army, even with the extend of the U.S. troops presence in Iraq, and and today he declared that he will make Iraq a graveyard for the Americans, we and Iraqi people are totally confused.

As this report: What Is Sadr’s Game on Future U.S. Troop Presence?, people need to see the big regional picture to understand Sadr’s double positions.

The Syrian regime, which mastered the game of walking between the red lines benefited from the visit of the U.S. Secretary of Defense to Baghdad and its importance for the U.S. administration on the fate of the US military forces in Iraq.

A very clear link can be seen between the rockets hit the Green Zone during Panetta’s official visit to Iraq, shows that the Syrian role in Iraq is not over yet. Therefore, Syria will face the US pressure by deploying the “Iraqi street” against the Americans, which is possible, especially if Syria and Iran cooperates with Muqatada Al-Sadr to threat the extend of the US presence Iraq.

Taking the story further to Lebanon, the kidnapped Estonians already revealed that they were held in Syria, security sources told Lebanese newspaper Al-Liwaa that the kidnappers threatened to hand over the hostages to terrorist groups in Iraq.

Lebanese newspaper Al-Nahar connects few dots saying that the release of the Estonians is a Syrian friendly gesture to the European Union showing the Syrian significant role in the region. At the same time the Sadrists in Iraq announce they will allow part of the US troops to extend their presence in Iraq (as a Syrian friendly gesture to the US!!!).
